I am ignorant. We restored this old house 25 years ago, and it was installed then. It is very large, approximately 2feet by 3 feet and it runs on a regular light switch.
It is in the ceiling at the top of my stairs. If the morning is particularly cool for a south texas morning, we open the windows downstairs and turn it on for an hour or so. It seems to make the air fresher in this house.
