I have seen this done. In fact we did this a few years ago for
my boss when he turned 40. Everyone dressed in black and all the
decorations were black as well, including a floral centerpiece. However, I have heard that it is NEVER in good taste to do something
like this for a woman….. I tend to agree with that. This country
and our culture has a great obsession with youth and appearance. Soit is difficult on some women. A few years ago at work there was a
surprise 60th party for one of the women. It was not done in black
and there were no “over the hill” references, but she walked in andwalked right back out in tears. So some women are very sensitive
about their ages, and many may seem like a “good sport” and go along
with it, but are hurt inside. (So are some men, for that matter, have you ever heard of a “mid-life crisis”?)
Just my observation, and reiterating what you said ……………….
It only works if the birthday person is not sensitive ………..— In Budget101_@yahoogroups.com, jill pokrivka
