I was told about Borax by my vet. They told me that it is deadly to the animals if they get it on their paws and lick it. I used the Borax on the carpets and let it set for 24-48 hours, then vaccumed it up thoroughly, twice. I locked my animals in a room while I did this, with food and water of course. This was the only thing that killed the fleas in my home and it only cost $5.00. I had spent $300 or more on other treatments. I don't know if the lamp works, but it would be worth a shot. Just don't forget to wash all other surfaces and materials to fully get rid of any fleas or eggs that may be hiding.

A "flea bomb" works really great too, for ridding a house of fleas. (This was a problem for me 30 years ago, when I had indoor cats, and the upstairs-apartment-tenant had outdoor cats, that brought in fleas. They infested our part of the house as well as his apartment.)
First, cover any food and fish aquariums with plastic wrap. Remove any pets.
A "flea bomb" is then placed in the middle of the room on the floor and "detonated."
You run out of the house, and the aerosol fogs the whole house with flea-poison. Don't breathe it because it is poisonous. You go back in your house hours later and open all the windows, while holding your breath. Go outdoors for awhile, until you are sure the air is safe to breathe. It really does eliminate fleas.

Okay, I am trying this lamp and dawn thing now. I have it all set up. I just have this feeling, I hope I am wrong. I will let you know. I did call the vet and they did say to not let the dogs get the borax on their paws, so I will do that tomorrow. Hoping I am doing this all for not.

If you are concerned about using Borax, although my research has found it only mildly toxic, you can use diatomaceous earth making sure it is FOOD GRADE. You can get it at a feed store, Amazon or health food store. While it is edible, it is still not a good idea to get it in your respiratory system, so I wear a mask while applying and vacuuming. It is dangerous to critters with an exoskeleton fleas, ants etc. It won't hurt your pets, it is inexpensive and it works!

This is the simplest safest trick yet. My Grandmother used this and it has been passed down, works on hardwoods as well as carpet. Take simple salt, any salt, start in one room spreading it using a side to side motion from open carton. Work your way throughout house. It's best to leave it overnight but honestly have waited about an hour and vacuumed. Don't do a vacuum over and over, just a quick one. Fleas will be gone for less than a dollar. This is tried and true, have always used it.

Thanks for all the advice. We have been fighting a flea problem for a month now. I hate to use chemicals on my cats but have had to. My daughter-in-law said to use products with colonial in it and that took care of the cats. I definitely want to try the dawn and lamp to see if there are still fleas in the carpet. Thank you.

i use DE for getting rid of and keeping fleas out of my house and off my pets. we live in the forest and have a LOT of wildlife. i will put some grain with DE in it and the wildlife eats it. i noticed our ticks disappeared immediately and fleas were short lived. i also dust the outside of my 1/2 acre with de. we don't get much rain in california, so it last quite awhile. DE is also great for treating and preventing parasites for animals and humans. i buy it by the 50 lb bag.. FOOD GRADE only.

It works great! Have caught 15 in < 12hrs!
Also put borax on furniture and will do carpet next (making sure dogs & cat stay out of the borax).
