Question About Food Pantries- Pantry Chat

Hi, I normally don't post much. But I need some help. I make too much to qualify for Goverment/State assistance. Rent is due on the 5th of the month and I will not have enough money for food to feed my daughter and myself. I'm wondering if the food pantry like the Salvation Army has income

    Hi,

has income limits. Please advice if you can.

It can't hurt to ask for help. Also, try calling the pregnancy centers in your area. If they can't help you directly, they will be able to tell you where to go so you and your daughter are not without food.

After you get some immediate assistance, stock up on things you can eat, even if it is just PB & J and Ramen Noodles, rice, dry beans, soup, mac & cheese. It is not fancy, but you will not go hungry either.

We have a baby not even a year old yet and we were told that we "make too much money" to qualify for assistance from the government. When I contacted the pregnancy centers, I told them about our baby and they helped out.

Several churches in my area have food pantrys and I believe its done on a no questions asked policy. Call local Catholic churches and ask about St. Vincent DePaul societies. Good luck to you.

Start calling churches to see if they offer the Angel Food Network, there are several in my area that do, or they may be able to tell you where to go. Not sure where you live, but we also have Helping Hands that help with food.

    Jessica,

I went to the following website and you can find host sites for Angel
Food Ministries by state. Hope this helps. I have used it in the past
and you do get a lot of food for $25 and you can buy more than one of
the packages. Then they have other "specials" that you can buy along
with the special. The site also has the current menu listed I believe.
    Good luck to you!!

I was just looking at the website for Angel Food Network and looks like a viable option for my family to use right now to get back on our feet. I was wondering if anyone has used them in the past or present? If so what were your pro and cons with it? TIA !

    Hi,
I have used them before. The only thing that I didn't
like was that the dessert was bad. Was never able to
keep the pies that we got. Besides that, It was that
bad. It's not the best cuts of meat but it still
    worked.
Just to let everyone know, my son used to help at
Angel food. He worked nights loading the boxes that
were getting shipped out for the areas. He worked 3
nights ( Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday ) one week a
month. He got paid a nice check for those days. So if
anyone needs some money coming in check with them.
    They always need help.

Considering they are there to help people when they are struggling and you are getting a lot of food for very little money I would think that most people would be grateful for the help and not complain that their pies were not that good!

What I meant was that it was spoiled. Not that it
    didn't taste good.
Also, Angel Food is not just for people that are
struggling. It's for anyone poor or not.

We have it here in little tiny Jefferson GA (1.5hrs North of Atlanta) so I'm
pretty sure you'll find one close to you in the Atlanta Area...just google and
    see what comes up.

I have used the angel food network for the past few
months. I have been amazed at the amount of food that
you get for $25.00! I bought 2 units this last month
with 2 specials that you can check out on the website
for $18.00 a piece. The Feb. food was pinto beans,
rice, a pie, a cake, hamburger, frozen bean & beef
burritos, tortilla shells, 2 different kinds of
chicken (fried chicken bites and frozen thighs),
frozen turnip greens, mixed vegetables and a box of
cereal. I can't remember if there was more but it was
amazing how well it's handled and how good the food
is. My family is recovering from my husband being out
of work due to heart surgery and just now got his
first paycheck since November. It's been a God send
for our famly. I'm sure we'll keep it up for at least
a few more months. You should try it for sure.

    Jessica,
Go to your local churches. Some of them have what you
call food banks. Most churches will find you help
since you have a child. Also check to see if you have
what is called F.I.S.H. in your area. That is run by
church groups. Also, Sheperd's Staff. They are also a
place that will give you food every week and give you
financial help ( for a bill like gas, water, electric
    ) every 90 days.
I don't know where you live so I don't know what is
in your area. I hope this helps. If I fins out any
    other places, I'll post it.
    Good luck.

my Dh and I went to a local church when we got our first place. I couldent work full time due to illness. They gave quite a bit of food. The lady used to give me extra of things people had a tendency to refuse too. I was always edgy about the seafood though. I was pretty gratefull at the time. felt like a bit of a cad though im not cristian. They are there to help those who need it though check into it.
