Anyone else's bulk meat prices gone up?

Anyone else's bulk meat prices gone up?

I buy our beef in bulk from a local man. Last year it was about $2/lb (about $360 for a quarter cow.) This year it was about $2.50/lb (about $460 for about the same amount). He said it was due to the cost of feed going up. I still think that it was a good deal - not for the ground beef, but

Default Anyone else's bulk meat prices gone up?

I buy our beef in bulk from a local man. Last year it was about /lb (about 0 for a quarter cow.) This year it was about .50/lb (about 0 for about the same amount). He said it was due to the cost of feed going up. I still think that it was a good deal - not for the ground beef, but roasts and steaks. I get about half ground and half in other cuts. Has anyone else had this issue.

Yes! We went from $1.89 lb to $2.25 lb. But I know how feed prices have really gone up just like our grocery prices have! Looking forward to growing our own meat! Got chickens this year and planning on getting cows next year. Turkey and deer are free for the taking here. Turkey's are near impossible to get in the Fall but it's Spring and they come running when we call them! We fill the freezer in the Spring!

Everything has gone up in price. We are going to be buying another calf this year to raise. My grocery bill hasn't been as bad this year since we have had our own cow processed. Although the grain price has gone up, we still like having our own cow done.

I'm so grateful a friend of mine use to be a small town butcher (His family business) and a few years ago he taught our family how to butcher all types of meat. We learned to only butcher in early winter so we could easily hang our meat to be butchered and let it age for a few weeks. Then using a deer he showed us how to do beef and hogs and even goats and sheep. Good knowledge to have for future use! When we get ready to butcher our first cow we can do it ourselves and by pass the local processing plant!
