Yeah, I would like to know too. Have started thinking about making my own refried beans and using beans more but since it's just me and hubby, we wouldn't be able to use all the beans unless we eat beans for several days.

I've made big pots of bean/ham soup and chilli. They freeze really well and taste fine once thawed.

I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.

I just did up a crock pot batch of refried beans this weekend! We go through them like crazy. I freeze them in my food saver bags, then toss them in the fridge in the morning and reheat in the evening and they are delicious! Here is the recipe that I use to make my refried beans Instant Refried Beans Mix I just throw the ingredients in the crockpot (I don't grind the beans up, do that after they have cooked) and add water, leave it on for most of the day, blend them up, then package it up into serving sized bags.

Forgot wanted to add that I have also being boiling up the dried kidney beans and tossing them in the freezer also. Have really saved a lot of money doing this over buying the canned ones and they taste fresher and much better in a chili or salad.

Thumbs up Re: freezing cooked beans

How much water do you put in the pot for the refried beans. Sounds very good. I'm new to frugal living. Love this sight. I sure have learned alot in the short time I have been here. Thank everyone.

I fill the crock pot to about two inches above the beans and then check on it throughout the day to see if I need to add a little more or not. Tastes as great as the canned versions but for a fraction of the cost.

I always pre-cooked my navy beans to the not quite done & then measured out 2 cups per container & froze them. We used them in various recipes. Also there are just 2 of us so we buy a big can of refried beans (on sale) & put them in small packages, then in a larger Zip Lock bag, then put in freezer. Cooked beans of any kind freeze very well.

I cook all kinds of beans and freeze them! When ever I have time I cook a pot of beans and then I put about 1 cup in each ziplock bag and then freeze them. then when I need beans for something I go grab what I need and just run hot water over the bag and presto they are thawed and ready to use! I use tons of beans in all kinds of stuff. I hate to spend money buying cans of them when I can do my own and get them in smaller amounts that I often need. I keep red, great Northern, Pinto, black and garbanzo beans in my freezer all the time and have to replace them often!
