For the most part we do our own taxes. We have had to use a tax person when we had real crazy years... but we use Turbo tax and its great and speedy.

I have always done them myself, even before the years of turbotax.

Guess I am the odd one, lol, I pay a wonderful guy to do my taxes. To me it is much easier, all I have to do is give him my paperwork go back in a week and they are all done. I don't do the H&R or other places but a real CPA. We do own a home retail business and since we started that it has just been easier to let someone who is more up to date on all the tricks and tips to do it for us. It costs me about $80 but we have always gotten a nice chunk of money back.

By hand since we married in 1964. I trust nothing and no one. If mistakes are made, I want them to be mine. Of course, our filings are fairly simple-long form, minor gains; that kind of stuff. Rather proud of myself because I haven't made an error(to my knowledge or irs's) in 44 years.

I've used Taxslayer.com that last couple years. totally free even transmitting to IRS. I used turbotax before that. I used a tax person once between the farm and DH being in a war zone but I actually used the turbo tax thing as I got more back that away. So since then I use a program and do my own thing.

I use taxact.com. It is free file for Federal. I formerly used Turbotax's free site, and almost messed up my filing one year. If I was not familiar with my taxes, I would have sent it in and received less money. After that year, I no longer trusted Turbotax's free file.

I have used the free tax service found from irs.gov for the past several years and it has been good. I only pay less than $10 to include the State return which I'm willing to do. Anybody making less than $56K should use this online service.

Taxact in our household. It works really well. We used it for a friend who normally does the HRblock thing and she was pretty happy.

Anyone in the military should use Taxslayer.com because it's free and they let you submit it for free too! They are listed on the IRS.gov website!
