    Thumbs up Baking cake evenly

Years ago I ran a small cake decorating business out of my home. I got very frustrated with all the cake that went to waste when I would have to slice off the tops to make it even. In the cake decorating supply stores they sold these insulated strips you could put around the outside of the cake pans but they were so expensive!! I was talking to the owner, who happened to be the Mom of a childhood friend and she told me a little secret she had always used....

Take an old towel, cut it into strips, the length of the towel, about 3" wide. When getting ready to put your cake pans into the oven, get your strips out and wet them down. ring out the water and wrap the strips around the outside of the pan and pin them in place. I used to use sewing pins or a paperclip.

When you take your cake out of the oven, there will be no high crowns in the middle of your cakes!!!!!!!

    NC_mom,

I'll have to try this tip. The insulated strips I have never purchased these either, I cut the tops off too. Have you ever tried this with the animated pans? Wondering if this tip would work the same way.

No I never tried it with the character pans. If I could have figured out a way to get them around all the curves and bends and get the strips to stay I would have though. If you figure out how, let me know!!!
