My favourite punch recipe is:

Make up some lime (green) cordial. Freeze it in 4 litre ice cream
About one hour before the party, remove one of the frozen blocks of cordial
and place in your punch bowl.
Just before the party, top with with ginger ale. Serve with chopped mint
leaves and chopped fresh fruit in season.

The block of cordial will slowly melt and combine with the ginger ale.

Sounds dreadful but the ginger ale gives it a great zesty taste!!
