I'm wondering how these soap containing do it yourself products work in hard water..I've lived in our area for 50 years, and had to stop using anything containing soap the first year, thank goodness for detergent. I have used the homemade detergent that contains Dawn with great success..
The price breakdown with the Fels Naptha seems good. I remember my mother used the Fels Naptha bars around the house when I was a child, but we had lovely soft water.

I truly like this idea and I love to make my own. Now all I need to do is find the Fels Naptha Soap here in Waterloo, ON., Canada. I do hope our Home Hardware Store or Home Depot carries it. I will let you know how I make out with this...

Some of our Canadian Members have reported that when they were unable to locate fels, they used a Product called "Sunlight" or Sunlight bar which is much easier to find in your neck of the woods.

Also, for our Aussie Friends, you can use SARD Laundry Bar.
    ~Enjoy!~

I live in an area with really hard water too. I make & use the Super Laundry Lavender Sauce made using the Purex Crystals & it works wonderfully. I really love it!!

We here in Aussie have sunlight soap as well which is what I was going to use as it looks like fels. Thanks for the heads up though.

I made the Lavender Laundry Sauce a while back and loved the scent but not the mess. I have a top loading HE washer so its a hassle to add the sauce for each load. So I decided to try this dry version but with Lavender scent. I added about a teaspoon of the Purex Lavender Crystals into the boiling water this calls for and stirred well until dissolved. Then added the water as instructed. Love the no mess ease of these versus the sauce and the scent is great!

I'm a newbie to the site and this is the first "recipe" I have looked at and I can't wait to try it. Thanks for the Sards info for the Aussies as that's where I am from

These look great and not to mention way easier to use than your laundry sauce I'm using now. I just need some clearification before switching over. This recipe calls for 1 bar of fels naphtha and 1 1/4 of each powder mixed with 1/2 cup of water. Using 1 Tbs per load. Your soap bombs are made with 1/2 cup fels naphtha and 1/2 cup each of powders mixed with 2 c water. Using 2 tsp per load. Thing is your post for the bombs states this is a concentrated form of the sauce and should only be used on extremely dirty/greasy clothes. It is not for everyday use. Isn't this recipe for the soap pods even more concentrated? Am I missing something?

Hi, I too have hard water, I use 1/2 to 1 cup baking soda per load, to soften the water. It not only softens the water, but helps with cleaning and 'sweetening' things like towels and socks. I have used both the liquid and powder homemade laundry soaps and love them. I also use a little (generic) Oxi-clean for the whites, other wise the iron in our water turns the clothes an orange color. They still get a little grey, but not as fast as they once did. (Use to be within a couple of washings our whites were grey and orange...lol....). Let me know how the baking soda works for you.
