need help with diet

I am on Atkin's right now. It is expensive, the weight will come off quickly, but if you plan to go back to eating any regular foods later on, the weight comes right back on. It is hard to stick to Atkin's forever but I know some people do it. I am just trying to drop 20 lbs before my vacation

end of the month. I only lost 8 in almost 3 weeks so it isn't working as quickly
    as I had hoped. It's a start...

    JJ.
I went on Atkins on the advice from my dr. about 3 years ago. I lost 55
lbs in 3 1/2 months (very fast I know, but I also found a great personal
trainer) and felt FANTASTIC! I found it extremely easy to follow. A word of
    caution
however, My cholestorol went up 86 points in 4 months, I got gout and it
inflamed my autoimmune diseases. I had to go off. I think that the rheumatoid
arthritis and lupus had a lot to do with all of it. If you have these or a
    family
history, I would consider a different low carb diet that lets you have more
carbs I wish you well. I do think it works very well! - Laura in Utah

I do Atkins and don't find it to be as expensive as others do. Because instead
of buying all the pastas, rices, potatoes and other carb foods the extra goes
into meat and fresh veggies. My bill has stayed the same and in some cases
dropped after a good meat sale.

Of course, you have to like meats and cheese to do this diet. If 90% of what
you eat now are carbs, it will be more difficult for you. Also, you will gain
weight if you go back to eating all the carbs again when you are done with
Atkins. Me, my snack of choice has always been cheese and I love meat, so I'm
not missing anything. If you follow the lifetime maintenance you can continue
to eat this way pretty easily because carbs do come back, just not in the
quantities you eat now. All the low-glycemic carbs come back - veggies, fruits,
whole breads even if its not every day. I know a gal who did atkins for the
quick weightloss but has switched over to South Beach for maintenance and that
is working well for her too.

Before you start, gather up a good list of recipes and plan your meals so it is
not as frustrating for you as you figure things out the first two weeks.

    Good luck
    Monica

When I went on it, I dropped 40 pound in nearly 3 months. The biggest trick
I learned? READ the book before you start. Don't just look at the meal
plans, look at the whys and wherefores. POST the DO NOT EAT list on your
fridge and pantry and DO NOT EAT THEM! "Doing Atkins" is not just a case of
eating meat, cheese and fats and cutting out everything else. It's an easy
plan to do and you'll find yourself satisfied faster. That's why I was able
to stick to it. After the induction phase, I ate fruits and vegetables along
with my proteins and was very happy. I ended up cutting out the crappy stuff

like sugar, white flour, white pastas and switched to healthier ones.

I've heard that the "South beach diet" is a more nutritious version of the
low-carb fads. Personally, we eat high carb, low fat in general & have
maintained healthy weights for years; works for us. But I like to "keep up"
with the news on the newest diets, and South Beach looks like a better
option--have you looked into that? (I can't remember who asked the question
    first).
