Doh Impending Shutdown- Does it Affect you?

Is anyone worried about the impending shutdown? Right now our family is praying that the healthcare/obummercare is repealed or defunded. There's no way possible that we can come up with the additional $600 per Month to pay for the cheapest insurance we could find. To top it all off, our deductible is $10,000 per year before it covers anything at all. Basically- we'd have to have a major astronomical "illness" or near death experience for it to even cover us. To put it in perspective, we haven't paid out more than $3,000 TOTAL for healthcare per year for the last 10 years. We pay cash for all of our medical bills. This "healthcare reform" is killing our budget.

Is it affecting you? Are you worried about the shutdown?

Yes, it's impacting our family, but I WANT them to shut down. I want those fools to stop shoving their "healthcare plan" down our throats! I tried signing up for coverage as the law mandates but it's adding $590 a month to our expenses and like you, that's with NO dat gum coverage! I don't know how they expect people to magically come up with that money and if you don't they TAX you for not having insurance, did you know that? They actually TAX you at the end of the year like $285 per month, per family.

How is that even constitutional or legal??

Damn! We were supposed to be spending next weekend at a National Park camping with the family and now it's closed & they're chaining the gates.

We don't have health insurance and we have no plans to purchase it. I'm not interested in being part of a socialist healthcare program. My Nephew is heading off to college next fall and was originally going to be a doctor/surgeon. He's decided against it because of the Obama Care plan; he says his career counselor has explained the ins and outs and there isn't any way that he'll be able to make enough money as a doctor under that plan to pay off his student debts before he's 45 years old. That's a pretty daunting way of figuring out your future career.

It's affecting our entire family on multiple levels and I think I've signed just about every petition I can find to repeal #Odummercare .

It's no longer an impending shutdown, it happened. It's sad that we elected these fools and now we're all the ones paying the price. I'd love to see this mess repealed! #ABetterWay

I'm going to add in my .02 because when my husband went to work yesterday, his boss informed him that he was going to have to cut his hours at work starting the first of the year due to the "Affordable Care Act".
My husband went from full-time with a company for the last 14 years to PART TIME because of this Asinine "Law"! Not only will we have to figure out HOW to pay our monthly bills on less, now we have a NEW monthly bill to contend with! I've already told our daughter she can't be in band this year because we can't afford the school fees ($50 per child + $15 class fee).

This bill is little more than a Tax and I don't understand how it still has ANY support at all, are there that many RICH people out there?? I'd like to see these Congressman & House Reps live off $24,000 a year with a family.

To your original question on the shutdown and the impact. Does it effect me? Not directly at the moment. However, I have a heart and I see the damage being done. WIC has shutdown, that is a lifeline for so many little ones and now the family can't get help. I wont discuss the Affordable Care Act, other than to say it isn't so very affordable. I watched the speech yesterday. Compromise is a two way street. The House has been trying, the other side has to give also. This isn't so much a Republican vs Democrate, it is more like a couple of two-year olds not willing to share and a parent sitting back and letting it hurt all of the other family members. Having 800,000 people out of work and pay added to those already in that situation does not help the economy. Nor does a healthcare plan that causes businesses to decrease hours of employees because they can't afford to cover them. Going from a full-time job to a part-time does not work to pay for the house, car, food, healthcare, etc. This puts more people in need of assistance that is not there, how are they to survive.

First and foremost, it's ALWAYS the Middle Class and the Poor that take the brunt of the political fallout, which is sad and needless.

I'm not a fan of Any Forced Healthcare plan, regardless of who presents it.
I don't agree with Republicans or Democrats- we don't need a divided nation, we need a United Nation.
If both sides would stop trying to shove their special interests into the bills/laws and we wouldn't be in this position to begin with.
We need Less Government, not more.
It's really NOT that difficult to create an affordable healthcare program for all citizens, one simply needs to revamp the laws for the insurance industry and disallow discrimination for pre-existing condtions. (Essentially, if you're a woman you are a Walking Pre-existing condition!)

Did you know that Law Congress must Pass a budget EVERY year? Did you also know they haven't passed a Budget since 2009? Why do they get away with continually breaking the laws that THEY created to begin with?

I'm concerned about the long term effects of this implementation and the little bits of legalese that are slipping through as more and more of the plan is revealed. Last year when our son broke both bones in his arm, we had no insurance what-so-ever and we paid for it entirely out of pocket. My husband also threw his back out and had multiple doctor appointments, not too mention visits to the optometrist and 2-3 sets of eyeglasses that we purchased out of pocket. With all of those things, the surgeon, radiology bills, etc, it was still Several thousand dollars LESS than what we are now being forced to pay after monthly fees and deductibles. That's not what I'd call "Affordable", any means.

With that all said, our family is directly affected both the shutdown and #obamacare - the costs for those that are self employed are astronomical, despite the so-called "caps" and we're starting to discover that the "Penalties" for not having this plan far exceeds the estimated $2850 Fee per year, per family.

There are so many things wrong with our Country right now, I just hope we see our way through this without another war (civil or otherwise) or great depression.

I don't wish to speak about the Obamacare (I do not support it) but I find that all these corporations who are cutting their workforces down to part time, so they do not have to provide health care, are more than likely just money hungry. IMHO

I agree with each of you on the affects of the shut down, and the health care plan. It's already had a huge negative affect on people who need to rely on the WIC program which is actually - good, encouraging healthy buying and not just wasted on things Food Stamps allow for those that need them. Though it would be nice to have health care for my husband and I, I am also very concerned about the financial crunch that will affect us. And there are a lot of people out there who - assume, it's a good thing, that they will no longer have to finance health care for those that can't. That money will still have to come from somewhere, is what is not being understood. And when I disagreed with a friend recently, she dumped me as a friend online, and more than likely - in reality (but I can live with that). I'm not sure what we have the power to do to fight what is going on, but the best thought is to stick by each other and help each other out in any way we can. Whether that's donating an item each time we buy our own groceries, or passing on clothing we no longer need/want...it all comes down to backing each other up in ways that we can, afford to do(?)

The biggest issue I have with the shutdown is that only class I recall notices are going out to consumers. That means that there is a huge backlog of recalls, and potentially a threat to health and safety to some citizens.

It did distress me when I saw so many families experience the realization of no money on their food stamp card. I hope that they will come to this site and learn how to be prepared for January, if this happens again.

I was also concerned about the status of the nation's mental health during this time - we had shootings, suicides, as well as a constant chatter on Facebook with some very angry words about what people viewed to be the root cause of the shut down. I finally had to tell people if they posted hateful angry words (on my page) directed at any person or official in the government, I would delete them and then block them. This is a time for solutions, not blaming

I have a cousin who has no income and is recently disabled and her disability judgement is under consideration. She is afraid to sign up for ACA (Obamacare) because she fears that the premiums will be unaffordable - in reality, the Federal Government is subsidizing ACA for people whose income is so low they would qualify for Medicaid and automatically moving them to it without charging a premium. This subsidy will continue for three years. Her fears are the result of her impressions during all of the name-calling and blame that went on during this shutdown.

Its time for us to put on a positive attitude, attack the problems at a person-to-person level, so that we can pull together and help each other out of debt. We can live better on less money, and we can support one another and become problem solvers - I am so grateful for this website

I agree with this 100%! We need to positively encourage more people to work toward this goal!

We should be shutting the government down more often. We are borrowing way to much money from China and other governments. If they call in the loans, we may be handing them over our national parks(Wood) and our national Monuments(Coal) in the west. We need to run the government like we do our family budgets, and if we don't have the money, we need to stop the spending.
