There must be a bunch of websites for hypoglycemia, but I haven't searched
for them. The above sites are for special diets for kids and sites that
sell products that are sugar free or yeast free or gluten free, etc.
I am pretty sure I have had undiagnosed hypoglycemia for years. I try to
collect cookbooks that are for diabetics, though I find I have to adapt them
to be even more carb. free. I also have copies of the Atkins Diet Cookbook,
the South Beach Diet Cookbook, and anything I can find that has recipes for
carb. free food. I just like to have as many resources as I can and
sometimes I have to adapt them to be totally carb and sugar free.
Oh, I also have The Low Blood Sugar Cookbook and The Low Blood Sugar
Handbook both by Edward A. Krimmel and Patricia A. Krimmel; they are
    excellent books.
Here are a few more titles:

-"Special Diets for Special Kids" by Lisa Lewis
-"The Yeast Connection Cookbook" by William Crook
-"The Specific Carbohydrate Diet" by Elaine Gottschall

    Hope some of this helps,
    Patty T

RE: Budget101.com : In Need of catalogs

Don't forget the Google Catalog search...they index nearly every catalog in the
    country.

    Hi,
I'm new here and I saw your post and I am wondering if you could tell me what is reactive hypoglycemia? The reason is that when I eat carbs it makes me sooo sleepy. My bro and sis are pre dibetic and my dr. says I'm not. I wondering if I might be reactive hypoglyemia too. I hope that I'm not bothering you with this. If I am I'm very sorry. Jayne

Most hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, occurs while fasting. But reactive hypoglycemia is low blood sugar that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Reactive hypoglycemia can occur in people who do not have diabetes. The cause of most cases of reactive hypoglycemia isn't clear.

Some researchers suggest that certain people may be overly sensitive to the normal release of the hormone epinephrine, which causes many of the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Others believe that deficiencies in glucagon — a hormone that normally protects against low blood sugar — may cause reactive hypoglycemia.

Less commonly, reactive hypoglycemia results from excessive production of insulin by the pancreas (hyperinsulinemia) due to a tumor (insulinoma) or high numbers of insulin-producing cells (nesidioblastosis). Reactive hypoglycemia may also occur after stomach surgery or due to certain enzyme deficiencies, which may interfere with the balance between nutrient absorption and insulin secretion.

    Symptoms of hypoglycemia include:

    Hunger
    Nervousness
    Perspiration
    Shakiness
    Dizziness
    Sleepiness
    Confusion
    Weakness
    Anxiety
Reactive hypoglycemia is often difficult to diagnose. Some people who have symptoms that are similar to reactive hypoglycemia may not actually have reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia typically is not associated with diabetes.

Medical evaluation of reactive hypoglycemia initially focuses on confirming that symptoms are caused by low blood sugar and symptoms resolve once blood sugar has returned to normal. Further evaluation of reactive hypoglycemia depends on the severity of signs and symptoms.

Reactive hypoglycemia usually doesn't require treatment. When needed, treatment may include dietary changes such as:

Eating several small meals and snacks throughout the day — no more than three hours apart
Avoiding or limiting high-sugar foods, especially on an empty stomach
