One of the neighbors has a kid that does not like candy, so I have

some change on hand to drop in his bag. One year I tossed some

balloons in my candy bowl, and the first week in October, some of the

kids were asking me if I was going to be giving out balloons again

that year. Those are a definite "to have" item for my stuff now. I

also usually have candy in with it.

The last time I gave change, the kids were yelling to each other from one yard to the next..."she's giving MONEY!"....too funny. Just a bunch of left over pennies thatweren't enough to roll and turn in the last time I made a bankrun...

With the price of candy, I may try that again this year.

I will be avoiding giving out candy this year. I'm thinking about giving out either decorative pencils/pens/mini notepads or juice boxes. I haven't decided yet.

I enjoy giving out pencils and decorative erasers!! I save all my

change throughout the year so I throw in a little change with that

too. My kids are older now (15,17 and 20) and they enjoy decorating

our yard and inviting any and everyone to come over to just have

fun. We also go the day before Halloween to out local church, they

have a costume party with lots of games for ALL ages. Its great!!

Last year I gave out glow sticks that my church provided to us for a

light the night campaign and they were a big hit with the kids and

parents. If I can get them for the right price I am going to do it

    again this year.

A friend saves all the little 'gifts' she gets every year (free pens, pencils,

key chains, stuffed animals, stickers, etc) and wraps them in Halloween type

papers and lets the tricker 'treaters pick a present. Cuts down on clutter and

saves money...she buys some candy (not much and only what she likes herself)

for the child who doesn't want a gift. I think she also had the gifts sorted

slightly for little kids versus bigger kids.

I like to give out school supplies such as pencils and erasers that I

buy at the beginning of the school year.

We have an insane bichon frise, but I still wanted to do something for Halloween. Last year, I bought a huge pumkin and drilled a ton of holes into it. Then I put a tootsie pops into each hole. I also put a pumkin light in it to make it glow. It sat at then end of our driveway with a sign asking to only take one.

It was great for me and it was neat for the kids.

Before we moved we lived on a street that only 4 - 10 kids would trick or treat, so I would buy full size candy bars and give them their choice.

    Happy Halloween.

I do something different each year. This year, I am filling small

Chinese take out boxes with candy, balloon, and close with a scary

label. Last year, I melted candy melts into Halloween cookie cutters,

and added eyes for ghosts, cats, pumpkins. Once hardened, I put in

cello, and tied off. Kids loved them.

Another time I made home made suckers in Halloween shapes. I also do

Jello popcorn balls, and candy apples. We have about 500 kids come to

our home, so I just plan on it. Anna

route (plus live in a suburb to a big city – no homemade items allowed

I buy a bunch of Wendy's coupons they sell for free Frosty's. I give them to my Rel Ed students, girl scout troop, neighbor kids and keep some for myself!

I save any "happy meal" toys that I buy or get through freecycle and I

also use b-day party goodie bag stuff and mix w/ a bag of candy to give

    to any kids.
