Here is the recipe my mother has been making for us for years. I've even
made them successfully

Cream Wafers

1 cup soft butter
1/3 cup whipping cream
2 cups flour

Mix thoroughly - cover and chill.
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll 1/2 of dough at a time, 1/8" thick. Cut into
1 1/2" rounds. (I've been known to use water bottle caps for this
Transfer the rounds onto waxed paper which is covered in sugar, dab them on
both sides, and then place on ungreased baking sheet. Prick rounds with
fork (I do 3 rows of 4 holes; does that make sense? Bake 7 - 9
minutes, depending on oven, etc. Once completely cooled, fill with creamy
filling (below).

Creamy Filling

1/4 cup soft butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 t vanilla

tint with a few drops of food coloring. My mother has always divided the
filling into 3 or so colors and used pastels.
