Default Tax prep question from Western Mass

can we take any deduction for purchase of new refrig on the state
return as a means of meeting the energy conservation or fuel
conservation deduction being allowed this year.

I also had new electrical box put in - not upgrade but total
    relacement

    What do you think?
Can you give pointers to where I can get accurate info

I also used a Career Coach this year -- trying to write off that
expenses as part of the searcing for new 1st job deduction

Taxes almost ready to be submitted
BTW last year I purchased the J.K. lasser's book on 1001 deductions
and tax breaks - got it a barnes and nobel
wrote the cost off this year -- heheh

I have all sorts of stickers hanging out of the book
Read the 400 page book in one night - it did not go into details on
the questions I am posting here.

You may be able to borrow it from the local library but this time of
year may be tough to get your hand on a loaner

not only was it easy to read and follow - but I could hear the sounds
of cash registers ringing with each new found item I could use for my
    tax situation

BTW if you were in car accident in 2005 you can deduct the damages on
your car under the casualty section of the tax return -- IRS form #
    4684

reply when you have a chance
    Thanks
    Elaine

RE: Budget101.com : Tax prep question from Western Mass

Mass. schedule Y line 14 is for heating fuel only. You can deduct up to $800
is your income qualifies. We prepayed ours, so can't claim for last year,
however, it says that you can claim any up to a total of $800 until March of
this year for next years taxes. Watch your dates!
    example:
1995, payed $300 in fuel, so in 1996 you can claim $500.
    Me:
1995 - $0 qualified, so am making sure that our oil company is paid a total
of $800 by March 31st, so I can claim the $800 next year. I've got to buy
oil, and I am sure they will take extra money!
DISCLAIMER: I am a regular gal who reads the tax forms and does our own
taxes, I am not an expert and you should read and do your own thinking also.
I have also put in phone calls in past years to the IRS and gotten good
info. We were able to claim the EOC when my dd lived with us, even though we
couldn't claim her as a dependent, the IRS guy walked me thru our taxes that
    year.
You may be able to borrow tax books on freecycle also.
