Default Re: hi just joined--Laundry Soap

    Kelly,

This recipe costs pennies to make. Most importantly, it is made from safe
ingredients, not tons of toxic chemicals that are in most detergents and
    soaps.

I am highly sensitive to many chemicals, so am unable to use most commercial
products. The laundry soap that I had used previously was similar to Wisk
(NFI) liquid and cost around $30 a gallon.

The washing soda, borax, and vegetable oil soap are safe products for me to
    use.

(I don't buy any other cleaning products like furniture polish, window
cleaner, bathroom cleaner. All products I use are safe and
inexpensive--vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, borax, etc. so the
ingredients for the laundry soap are not extras for me since I use them for
other cleaning applications throughout the house.)

It all boils down to personal preference. In providing the laundry soap
recipe, I was providing an inexpensive alternative.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Ok, This mite sound stupid, but would'nt it just be
cheaper to buy your own laundry detergent instead of
buying all that extra stuff?? I am lookin for ways to
save money also, but this sounds like alot of extras
to buy. I get big bottle of laundry detergent for only

    2.50 at dollar general.

    >> 1/2 cup borax

    Pam,

I just joined also and was looking through some of the previous
messages. I have a question about the homemade laundry soap.

Is the borax just something like the 20 Mule Team Borax you can buy
or is it just borax. Where do you find that in the stores? I would
be very interested in trying to make my own laundry detergent. The
only thing I use is Tide because we all have sensitive skin and it
    is getting really expensive!!!

    Thanks!
    Tammy

I've always used 20 Mule Team Borax and I find it with the laundry supplies.
My personal experience with homemade laundry soap has been positive.

    Re: Budget101.com : hi just joined--Laundry Soap

    Tammy,

It's the 20 Mule Team Borax Laundry Booster--it's in a sea-foam green box.
I get it at our local Price Chopper grocery store.

If you're used to using regular detergents, the clothes aren't as soft, but
I use vinegar in the rinse and dry everything in the dryer and that helps.
We also have cotton clothing, no synthetics, so that helps minimize static
    cling.

Try it and let me know what you think!

    Tammy

20 Mule Team is what you want. It's in the laundry soap aisle, near the
powdered bleaches and such. I've found it at both Walmart and Meijer in my
    area.
