Ice the air! Running a fan? Set a bowl of ice cubes in front of it, The

melting ice will cool the breeze turning a regular fan into an actual

    air conditioner

    =

Clever cooling sachet! Fill a clean sock with raw rice. Seal it with a

rubber band and put it in the freezer for at least 2 hrs. Then before

you turn in slide the frozen compress under the covers to cool the

sheets. Since the rice holds a chill for hours. Keep it handy to

    counteract any hot spots

    =

Work the windows! When it's hotter out than in. Close the windows, Pull

the blinds and drapes. The more layers between you and the sun the

better. This can reduce heat coming in by up to 45 %

    =

Backward fan relief! This trick could help you cut the a/c at night:

Simply open your bedroom window and position a fan so it's blowing the

air out. Forcing hot air out of a room is twice as effective as trying

    to blow cool air in

    =

Close your fireplace! An open damper actually sucks hot air into your

house. Just remember to open it before you light your first fire next

    fall.

    =

Change your bulbs! Compact fluorescents produce almost 70% less heat

than standard bulbs generating the same amount of light

Life is like a jigsaw puzzle. But you don't have the picture on the front

of the box to know what it's supposed to look like.Sometimes you're not

even sure if you have all the pieces.

Today I challenged the entire family to not turn on one light! We woke up this morning and opened the windows instead and used the natural sunlight. The kids are digging this challenge. Tomorrow, no spending day. An entire day without spending money.

Good idea - make a game of it and enlist the kids - after awhile you'd

be surprised what becomes habit - good habit! KarenMO
