Default What can I grow INDOORS?

Can I add to this question? I'd like to grow stuff indoors too. Veggies, herbs, whatever will thrive in my home! But my concerns are this: how to keep my cats out of them (I have 7), and at what temperature. As strange as that last question is, my reason is this: I keep my thermostat off for the most part. I run only my gas logs when we come home in the late afternoon. It gets a bit chilly in the house, 55 degrees, but I'm such a tightwad I don't see the point in running my heat if no one is there to use it. I can close off a room from the cats, but what about the temperature? I so have a brown thumb!

cool rooms or temps slows the growth but won't stop it .. think spring weather and late fall planting .. make sure they have sunlight .. if you have really bad cold snap shut the curtains at night and bad daylight weather (a few days won't kill them)

as for the cat close the doors

if you like sprouts try doing some of them in the kitchen on the counter

Re: Budget101.com : Re: What can I grow INDOORS?

I have not read this whole thread, but from the
following email regarding a cat and indoor plants, let
me relate that I used to grow catnip inside a large
birdcage. the cats could not mess with the plant but
I could get to it whenever I wanted.

(they kept whatever grew outside the cage trimmed very
    neatly.)

Thanks for the reply! I'll try anything to grow my own and not have to buy.
