Free credit reports are very common these days, with and without

strings attached. Free credit scores, on the other hand, are not so

common. Now, thanks to a lawsuit settlement involving TransUnion, many

consumers will be entitled to both a credit report and a free credit

Anyone who had an open credit account in the U.S. between January 1,

1987 to May 28, 2008 will receive up to 9 months of TransUnion's

credit monitoring service for free. By June 16, consumers can

determine their eligibility and file claims by visiting or calling (866) 416-3470.

TransUnion is one of the three major credit bureaus. The bureau

recently settled a lawsuit involving an FCRA violation of selling

consumer information.
