    Default anyone know if you can freeze canned mushrooms?

    I got a great price on a giant can of mushrooms but obviously don't

    want to try and use them all at the same time ..



    Anyone know if you can freeze canned mushrooms .. and if so any idea

    if I need to do anything special?

    IF you can vacuum seal them first.

    Then you can heat them up as you need them

    If you take them out of the can first, sure. Put them in freezer

    zip-loc type bags, in the amounts you'd use.



    (Think about frozen pizza, that has mushrooms and frozen).

    Yes, many cooks do this, including myself. Leftover onion, celery,

    carrot, leeks, mushroom stems, etc. end up in a gallon ziplock in the

    freezer. It doesn't even matter if there are a few bits of dirt or

    sand since the stock will get strained through cloth/china cap at the

    end.



    I will either make a vegetable stock or -- more frequently -- make a

    chicken stock with these frozen veggies. If you're making a darker

    stock, the occasional tomato is okay.



    Most experienced cooks will use the freezer quite well for maximum

    efficiency of leftovers (both raw ingredients as well as cooked items)
