I simply cannot afford to pay a pro for the stain treatment- the overall job is priced fairly, til they arrive and quote the extra charges

You might try this: Fill an empty spray bottle with 1 part Ammonia and 1 part hot water -- (Open a window as ammonia has a strong smell!) Liberally spray this solution on the stain until it is pretty wet. Let set 3 minutes. Lay a white towel or white cloth on top of the stain and use a steam iron (the cotton/steam setting with water in it and keep it hot by pressing the steam button several times as you work) to iron the towel to draw the stain out of the carpet. (Keep your face out of the steam -- it will burn your eyes!!) Change towels when you see dark stuff coming thru them. Repeat until the stain is gone. Be sure to keep the iron on the towel and don’t iron the bare carpet.

If you have pets once you have done the ammonia treatment you may want to clean the area with a 1/4 cup vinegar to a quart of water solution to neutralize the ammonia, so they won't think it is a litter box or toilet.

If the stain is a grease type you can take some white chalk and rub it on the stain before doing the ammonia treatment.

For wax use a paper bag and an iron.

When using spot cleaners spray on and blot off your carpet--never scrub.

    Hope this helps. Thanks; Virginia
