CHOW CHOW (GREEN TOMATO PICKLE)

4 qts. sliced tomatoes
1 qt. sliced onion

Sprinkle with 1/2 cup salt, set overnight (or 6 to 8 hours). Rinse with cold
water. Drain.

Add: 3 c. packed brown sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground cloves

Tie up 1/4 cup whole mixed <SPAN class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1212668242_0" style="CURSOR: hand;BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed;">pickling spice in cheesecloth or coffee filter.
Cook until tender 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
