    Default Smelly Drain??

I'm trying to find a good remedy for a smelly bathroom sink drain.

The drain in the tub doesn't smell bad...nor does any of the other drains...Can't figure out why just this one smells bad.
Every month, as part of my household monthly maintenance, I pour baking soda and vinegar down ALL drains. Let that sit for about 30 minutes, then add Dawn dish detergent. Then I pour a large stockpot of almost boiling water down the drains.
And still, this one sink drain, smells not so pleasant.
The water drains out fine, no clog....just an odor. Not sure what to do next...

    Any suggestions?

Is it a sewer gas smell? If so, it sounds like you are missing a trap or vent.
You might have to remove the trap at the bottom of the sink and clean that well and don't forget to clean out the pipe that runs out to the sewer which protrudes out from the wall. I also do the vinegar/baking soda/ dawn thing about once every couple of months, but when we had a smell, I pulled off the trap and found black slimy stinking sludge that would make you gag.
    ~Enjoy!~

Okay, that gives me a starting point.
    Thank you!
At this time of year, I can't really afford to call in a licensed plumber to find it. They're a bit on the -expensive- side... :/
    Gonna try this today!

How did you make out? Was your drain really icky? I pulled apart the one in my shower today and cleaned it out (*shudder*). I have REALLY long hair and it was NOT pretty. lol

Also, I forgot to mention, sometimes if the "overflow" in the sink gets something stuck in it, it will have a smell too. You can use an old toothbrush or a pipe cleaner to "wash" the inside of it. The kids sometimes manage to get toothpaste stuck in the overflow in their bathroom.

Hubby took it apart for me that day. I really thought it was gonna be just GROSS, but there wasn't anything in it except a little super stinky water.
We drained that out, then I took the pipe and soaked it in a mix of water, bleach, and dawn.
I did notice there was just a little, either mold or mildew looking stuff just above the bend of the pipe.
How or why it was there, I have no clue, but it was.
So after soaking it, I rinsed it then had Hubby replace it. So far, I think it's okay, but I really can't tell, my allergies and sinus issues are so bad, I can't smell.
I think I probably need to get a few pipe cleaners to clean that overflow thing. I didn't think about that one...
Thanks so much for the information and advice!!!!!
