    Hi, all,

I really want to make our first Christmas in our new home special for our

kids. We are a thousand miles away from the rest of our family and I really

want to start making some new traditions here that will be remembered. I

remember making Christmas cookies with my grandma every year near the

holidays and I want to share that kind of thing with my kids. I'd love to

hear what foods you all make with your children at Christmas or food-type

    ornaments.

    Thanks!

My kids and I used to make ornaments each year & put the date on the

back of each one. When we would decorate the tree & see the ornments

it reminded us of that xmas. We would also make each grandparent,

aunts and uncles an ornament too. Depending on your kids' ages, we

used to use large cookie cutters, trace on felt, cut out & decorate

with glitter & glue. When they got older, I would buy plain glass

ornaments and also decorate with glitter & glue. Hope this helps--have

    a great holiday

For ornaments, you can do something as simple as buying a paint pen

and all signing a regular bulb each year, you may need a large one if

your children are young and still write large or if you have a large

family. A friend of mine did this with the mini bulbs and used them

as gift tags, it just said from and their last name. The kids had fun

making them up ahead of time.

I like making just about anything with my 10 year old, she is getting

pretty good around the kitchen. She helps with dinner quite often as

    well.

For younger kids, I would think making ginger bread men would be a

special treat, or a graham cracker or ginger bread house.
