    Not married here, but what a wonderful example of being married in a

    true "community." Everyone who contributed was a witness and supporter

    of your marriage, and I'm sure that is 10 times more meaningful than

    the $65,000 wedding put on by strangers for acquaintances and those

    coming for free food.

    I've seen my sister and brother put on very reasonable weddings

    costing well under $5000. Today's hype has put misplaced emphasis on

    the event of that one day as opposed to the months of premarital

    counseling and preparation that should be given to the lifetime

    commitment. Wish couples would spend the dough on that and reduce

    divorces by the 33% as claimed.

    I am embarassed to say that when me and DH got married

    in 2005 ours cost $40,00 and we spent $7,000 on

    honeymoon in Italy. We paid everything in cash though

    so we didn't get stuck with bills after but we did

    learn a lot about cutting cost after the affair. I am

    much more conservative about spending than I used to

    be. When you think about it, the wedding is no more

    than 5-8 hours, so much money for one's day's

    celebration!

    <FONT face="Tahoma">This is our breakdown -
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Church - free - my husband was a pastor and we used his church to marry in
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Minister -??? - my husband's brother, who is also a minister. My husband paid him.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Flowers - free - dh knew everyone in the small town where he lived and preached and these were donated by the florist.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Music - $25 for the organist
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Cake and mints- donated by church member who was a professional baker
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Punch and other snacks - donated by congregation
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Limo - donated by friend of dh's
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Wedding dress - $20 - 1940's satin and lace with long train - purchased from friend who had bought it for his vintage clothing business, but then realized it would not work for him. He said he would give it to me and I told him I would pay him what he paid for it.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Veil - $68 - my mother paid this. I did not want one but she said I needed one.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Wedding shoes - $20. I was going to wear sneakers, but my mom said, "NO WAY!" and paid for these. I still wear them as they are very comfortable.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">Rehearsal dinner - $100 for 32 people. Held at the only restaurant in town, family style ham and fried chicken and all the trimmings. We were given a special price as the owner knew dh.
    <FONT face="Tahoma">
    <FONT face="Tahoma">I had saved $2500 in the 6 months before we were married and part of that paid for a honeymoon to Key West.

    Im sure Im not the only one who is interested in knowing the website you mentioned. Laurie >>>I found a cute site that you can input your zip code and it tells you what
    the average wedding cost for that zip code is...

    For the small town in WI that I live in (population is 104 people) that the
    average wedding cost is $26,510 . That's completely hilarious considering
    that the average INCOME for the town is $12,345.

    Married in 1998, in Walnut Creek, CA. I don't remember all of the breakdowns. A few that stand out were: site for wedding around $1200, site for reception around the same, $100 minister, $800 my dress & veil, $400 cake, $2700 photographer, album, and negatives. The caterer was dh's uncle and we got the food at cost and didn't have to pay for the waitstaff, but we had prime rib, salmon, and something else--chicken? I'm sure that was a bundle.The total was $25,000. For our honeymoon we went to an all-inclusive Sandals resort in St. Lucia. Had our own private pool on the balcony, and several other upgrades. That was $8000. Not exactly budget. Priorities have changed since we have a mortgage and kids. Sherri

    I do have to say I beat you on the cake price as mine was FREE. My aunt makes and decorates cakes for a living so that was are wedding present from her. I think we spent $700 total including our rings and that was in 1993. We also poled it off in 3 weeks. My mil made us get married for my husband to get help with going to school. Long story short we were young and had an 8 week old child when we got married. Patti
