I found this recipe in an old cookbook and it sounds really interesting. I've not tried it yet, but as soon as I get a can of water chestnuts, I think I'm gonna.

French Onion Rice

1 cup long grain rice
1 (8 oz) can undrained sliced mushrooms
1 (10 3/4 oz) can french onion soup
1 (8 oz) can sliced water chestnuts-drained
6 tbsp butter

1. Mix all ingredients except butter in a greased casserole dish.

2. Cover with sliced butter pats.
3. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 1 hour.

Serves 4-6
