Leaf rubbings - you choose leaves, lay them on newspaper, cover with a piece of blank paper (like copy paper), rub with crayons. You get the image of your leaf. Hiking Fishing Rock skipping Cooking - make "campfire" foods - chili, hotdogs, burgers, smores, fish roasted over the fire, pizza Herlean

Nature walks, scavenger hunts (use nature items- a maple leaf, a

dandelion, etc), renting a boat (most camp grounds that allow boating

rent them as well), fishing (if it's allowed), squirt gun fight (or

water balloons- if they are allowed, they usually are not because of

the mess left afterwards), cards, board games.

We stock my parents camper with board games for rainy days, but we pull

them out during "boring" times, too.

You could take a night time nature walk with flashlights, too. Look

into the local area. There might be a lake near by that allows

swimming. Try local parks, too, for playing.

Give each of the kids a disposable camera to take pictures with. Have

them help with meals- planning and preparing. Get creative in what you

bring for meals so you can vary things up from what you might serve at

    home.

Bring bubbles- even older kids will have fun with these occasionally.

You could check and see if a kiddie pool is allowed, and bring one of

the type that has the tarp for a bottom, and the soft non-inflated

sides. They are usually a bit deeper, and they fold down easy.

You could try horse shoes, or the wooden boards with bean bags. Get

glow sticks at the dollar store for at night. They sell necklaces and

bracelets and actual sticks at Dollar Tree. You can get a tube of 15

bracelets for $1, or you can buy a package of 6 bracelets for $1, 2

necklaces with 2 bracelets for $1, or 1 stick for $1.

Don't forget marshmallows & hot dogs to roast on the fire, and get

    sticks to use for it.

    Enjoy!

A lot of campgrounds, and especially state parks, will have some evening or afternoon programs that are free. They'll have nature hikes, talks about local wildlife or plants. That might especially appeal to your older child. We were at a state park last summer and one evening they had a program where you we learned all about owls, then they took us owling trying to find some. It was dusky, and we all had flashlights and tried "caling" them. Really interesting and fun!
