Default What can I do with these....Half used bottles of water

<font style="color: rgb(204, 102, 204);" size="4"><span style="font-weight: bold;">We buy bottled water by the cases but I noticed that I&#39;m always finding half used bottles all around the house all month long. I gather them and used the unused water for my plants and for filling the iron. Does anyone have any other uses for them?

The empty bottles cut in half can be good starter cups

for plants. Also I have used them to make traps for

fruit flies in the summer. You cut the bottle so there

is a little more than half on the bottom. You put a

small piece of fruit inside and put the top on upside

down. Tape the edges around the two pieces so they are

sealed. If you have fruit flies around your house

place them where you see them most. Fill it up with

water and drain when you have caught flies daily or

toss them out. It works well. Just make sure you keep

checking and emptying the caught flies or make another

trap. If you don't you may end up with maggots in the

traps. It will take up to a week of redoing if you

have alot of flies. But it does work. You can also use

these bottles for bolts, screws, and nuts. Any thing

small is good to store in them. Hope it helps.

This seems to be a problem in every houshold that purchases these

    water

bottles. Mine as well! We have a large family, so I got in the habit

    of

marking each bottle with a "Sharpie" so each person had their own

symbol or initial on the cap of the bottle. I had to use symbols in

some cases because we had to many names that started with the same

letters. This also kept the bottles from getting into the wrong hands

in case someone in the house was ill. Marking bottles also penpoints

the person or persons leaving them laying around. Water bottles can

be refilled 5-7 times, but should be trashed after that for health

    reasons anyway.

I have watered plants, refilled pet bowls, etc... with the trashable

water bottles. Some plants (houseplants) even like unfinished soda,

flavored waters, selzter water, like 7 Up (never cola). If you have

an ant problem in your area, you will want to be careful with the

soda however. Never use bottled water from an ill person for your

pets! Your animals will catch whatever that person had!

Though bottled water isn't expensive, our family has cut back on what

we purchase (purchased by the case from Costco/Sam's). Tap water

tastes fine here (don't have well water). We only purchase bottled

water for fieldtrips, parties, etc... For fieldtrips, we freeze the

bottles (may need to open and leave headspace for freezing) first,

then pack to take with. The freezing keeps the water cold longer

and then you only drink what has thawed, making it last longer as

well. In the case of a camping trip, you can use in place of ice in

your cooler until bottles are thawed or used up.

    Hope this helps.
