Is it worth having chickens, but then again, Just how many eggs would you need/use? I know a larger family wuold consume a lot more than mine. I just wonder what is the cost involved. egg/hen ratio.

I don't know the answer to your question, but sometimes there are unexpected and easy ways to sell the eggs. For example, I belong to a chorus that meets once a week September through April. One of the chorus members has chickens. Every week, chorus members give her orders for eggs, and she brings in the eggs the next week. Another family sells eggs at church. They bring in a cooler full of eggs and leave it near the foyer door at the beginning of service, and buyers just leave money in a box.

I do it because I don't like store bought eggs, they are pathetic taste and

color wise. I won't eat store bought eggs. I spend about $20 every 2-3 months

on chicken feed. I turn mine out quite a bit, and they get the spilled horse

feed, and bugs, and what not. So the expense isn't much for me.
