    Default Hornet/wasp control

Last summer was the first year in our current home and we had a ton of

hornets or wasps (not sure how to tell the difference). They were

getting behind the shutters and we are sure behind the siding. The

kids are deathly afraid of them and refuse to go out on our deck and

often come screaming in the house because they have seen some. And if

one gets in the house (which they often to) all pandamonium breaks

lose with screaming kids and slamming doors! Not to mention that I

swell up horribly when stung. Last summer we used spray and found

that raid worked best (the off brands often did not even kill them)but

still had too many to sit comfortably on our deck.

Yesterday was warm and we saw some moving around already. Does anyone

have an inexpensive solution to this problem?? I am sure eventually

we will need to do something more--are there exterminators that deal

with this sort of problem? I would like to enjoy this summer instead

of having to constantly walk around with a can of raid! Thanks in

    advance, Kerry

At OSH and other home improvement stores you can get bait and just follow

the directions (usually add juice to it in a large jar). If you catch the

queen in early season you won't have nearly the issues as you did last year.

Good luck and change the trap often.

They mainly hover around their nests. So look for the nests in the eaves and around nooks & crannies outside (around windows, doors, behind the shutters...etc) and spray the nests, then scrape them away the next day (I use a broom handle to do that).
