Our low cost supper!!
Our low cost supper!! I was able to feed my family tonight for as little as
$1.22 per person. I have a family of 5 and we had leftovers for tomorrow's
lunch with the chili Mac and cornbread. YUMMY!!!
I hope you enjoy!!
2 cans of Chili ($1 each can)
1 can of Rotel (.69 cents for generic)
1-15 oz can of tomato sauce (.50 cents for generic)
1 can of corn (.25 cents)
1 LB of hamburger ($1.00 per lb)
1 LB of elbow macaroni (.50 cents per pound)
1/2 cup of water
Dump chili, Rotel, tomato sauce & corn in large crock pot and stir well. Add
seasonings like chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder or any other type
flavorings you would enjoy. Next Dump 1 pound of hamburger into the pot and mix
until broken up into chunks and cover. Cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on
low. Add cooked elbow macaroni a 10 minutes before serving and mix well. Add
salt and pepper as needed.
This filled my EX-Large crockpot so you might need to reduce recipe if you are
cooking in smaller pot.
We cooked two boxes of Wal-mart Corn bread (.33 cents per box)
Poor Mans Banana Bread or Muffins (cost for recipe is less then 50 cents)
No Milk or Eggs needed!
3 over ripe bananas mashed in a bowl. Add 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup oil
and mix well. Let sit 5 minutes. In a separate bowl blend 2 cups flour,
1 teaspoon soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Gradually add to banana mixture
and stir until flour is all well blended. Do not beat.
(Optional: stir in chopped nuts, raisins, oats, etc if desired)
Pour into well greased bread pan or use well greased muffin tins. Bake
in 350 degree oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until done.
Makes 1 loaf of bread or approximately 16 small muffins.
