Default tennis balls in dryer and shoeboxes

I heard from an online acquaintance that to "significantly reduce" drying
time, her repairman recommended you put 3 tennis balls in every dryer load.
    Have
any of you tried this? I bought some tennis balls and have done it, but I
haven't yet had time to actually compare the time it takes for a load to dry and
see if it's really working. Have any of you tried this?

My use for shoeboxes: I have six children (ages infant to teen), and I reuse
the shoebox by putting an old pair of shoes that is hand-me-downable in it,
labeling it with the size and type of shoe (for example: Size 8 Women's Black
Dress Shoe) and putting it on the closet shelf of the person who will grow
    into it next.

When i have to use my dryer, i usually hang our clothes, i put in a
big, dry, fluffy bath towell in the dryer and it really cuts down on
the drying time. Cindy in MI
