Possibly OT...washing soda substitute- Laundry~Detergents~More

Hello everyone, I have been wanting to make the Fels Naptha laundry soap, but for some reason my grocer has stopped carrying the washing soda (Arm and Hammer). Is there a substitute item I can use in its place? Sorry if this is OT. If you need to email me off list about this, that is fine.

    "you can use borax"

Borax IS one of the ingredients besides washing soda. Should I really use
    all that Borax?
