This is a really good dessert. I've served it for everything from
family reunions to nice sit down dinners. Everybody who has had
itloves it. What more can I say? This is a recipe given to me
almost 40 years ago at my wedding shower and has never failed me
(although the husband is long since gone). My holiday gift to all
of you.

Walnut Cherry Delight

$$$ Sunday Dinner, desserts

bottom layer
1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1/2 cup coconut, flaked
1/2 cup walnuts; finely chopped
middle layer
8 ounces cream cheese; softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla
topping
21 ounce cherry pie filling
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped coarsley

Combine flour, brown sugar and butter; blend to find crumbs. Add
coconut
and finely chopped walnuts; mix well. Set aside 1/2 cup of this
crumb
mixture. Pack remainder into bottom of greased 9x13x2 inch baking
pan.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 15 minutes or until edges
are very
lightly browned. (Watch Carefully, burn easy)

Meanwhile, combine softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg and
vanilla. Beat together till very smooth; spread over hot baked

bottom
layer. Return to oven for 10 minutes longer.

Remove from oven and spread cherry pie filling over cheese layer.
Sprinkle
with coarsly chopped walnuts and the reserved crumb mixture. Bake 15
minutes longer. Cool before cutting into squares. Makes

Watch closely while in oven, burns easily. Well worth the effort to
make,
everyone loves this recipe.
