  1. found this recipe about a year and a half ago on this web site. my kids actually prefer this over the store bought ones, and have even had their friends beg the kids to bring in some for them.

i added dry powdered milk, a bit of wheat germ, flax seed, and a touch of shredded coconut.
next time i make these, i’m going to use toasted slivered almonds and some dried fruit.

I usually bake them a little less time…I think it depends on the oven. I know my gas oven baked them differently than my electric oven does.

  6. these were awesome, the first time i made them, i was a little short on food and made them with dried prunes and some chopped up pecans. they were gone the same day. we made another batch today substituting the margarine for peanut butter and added some chopped peanuts.

this batch mixed a little dry, but added some water and they came out just as good.

Thank you for the list of other ingredients that you have put in them! I just went to the grocery store and forgot to pick up chocolate chips…I’ll try the peanut butter and pecans! 🙂
Wondering though, how much water did you add to the mix?

      Thanks again! 🙂

  7. I make these quiet often. Tonight I added a tablespoon of cinnamon and an extra half stick of butter. It was more cake like since I melted the butter instead of softened….dang microwave.

🙂 Really made for a great granola bar. However, my kids think these are cookies and they will be gone by Monday.
