      When out of fabric softner, go in your kitchen and grab some aluminum foil. Crinkle it into a ball & throw in your dryer with your wet clothes. The foil takes all the static out and clothes look great!

      I do this all the time. Saves on money too!

      Do you re use the foil or do you have to use a new piece each time? and how big a piece??

      About the size of a golf ball will work fine and you can use it over and over again.

      About 12″ and I use it until it falls apart. So far the one im using now I’ve had for over a month. .

      If you take your clothes out before they are bone dry, they won’t have the static. The moisture helps with that.

      I use vinegar in place of Fabric Softener. It softens and stops static cling. It’s also very cheap.

      In question to using foil in the dryer; Does it snag nylon clothes? Just wondering.

      i was wondering about the ‘snag’ thing also…and if i run out of fabric softener, i use white vinegar too.

      Regular works better I think. It forms into a nice hard ball 🙂

      I put my Nylon in a bag so cant answer this. Although, after 2 uses of the foil ball it gets hard like a gulf ball so I would think it would be ok but let it get hard first.

      I am going to try this right now. I do use my dryer in winter, with a diverted filter that warms my basement nicely.

      I love this tip. I have been using vinegar in my washer to help with it, but it doesn’t eliminate it all, so I still deal with static. Yay for another solution!

      I always use 1/4 cup of white vinegar in all of my clothes! Makes bath towels so soft and I do not have static on my other clothes.

      For those who still want the clothes to smell like fresh daisies… try diluting your fabric softener or just use less in each load! Doesn’t help when you are out, but surely stretches what you have to keep you from running out as often!

      Something I have done to stretch my fabric softener is to add vinegar once I have used half the bottle. I then save that bottle and when I buy more, I fill the empty bottle half with fabric softener and half with vinegar. Now I have two bottles of fabric softener for the price of one.

      I have also noticed that the vinegar keeps my towels smelling fresh. I bought some new color towels and it seemed like no matter how much I washed them and used fabric softener, they still seemed to have a stale smell. Once I started using the vinegar, I noticed that the smell went away.

      Should I assume that you use white vinegar??? If this is answered somewhere, please forgive me, I’m not getting how to find stuff on this site yet. Some I can, some I can’t and some directions are just as confusing.

      Who exactly are you replying to?? If you’re replying to the original 1st thread about using aluminum foil for a dryer sheet, than no, you don’t need vinegar as well. When you want to reply to something, hit the reply with quote in the bottom right hand corner of the post and then edit the quote to leave just the couple of lines you’re responding to.

      That way people know what you’re asking about when you respond to a thread with 20+ replies. 😉 and you’ll get a quicker answer.

      If you are referring to my post about the vinegar and fabric softener, then yes I do use white vinegar.

      I like to add vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser. Clothes come out clean and with less static. Has anyone tried adding essential oils to vinegar that is used as fabric softener?

      How did it go? Were you able to mask, or work with the smell of the vinegar? Thanks!!

      I found this tip at just the right time. I ran out of foil, went to the store to buy more, then came back to find that I was out of fabric softener! You’re a life (and gas) saver.

      I have never heard of this before but willing to try. I have had itchy skin that the dermatologist believes might be caused by the dryer sheets.

      I’ve heard that dryer sheets are a fire hazard. At work, where we stay with people who need extra help, we aren’t allowed to use dryer sheets. The fire marshall wouldn’t let us.

      Has anyone else heard this?

      I’ve never heard that. Here’s an idea though. Make the homemade fabric softener or store bought if you aren’t allowed to make it, dilute it and drop in a sponge.

      Wring out the sponge and toss it into the dryer. VIOLA you have a “Dryer Sheet”. 🙂

      Thank you for this great tip! I use vinegar in my wash cycle but still have so much static with my clothes! I hate using fabric softener which is expensive and full of weird chemicals!

      i have heard this. fabric sheets cause a film in the lint catcher that can cause a fire. i once saw something on tv where they showed someone running water on a lint catcher and the water didn’t go through the holes because of the build up from the fabric sheets.

      at the time i was using fabrics sheets and tried it. i had so much film that the water just sat there as if it was in a bowl. after that i washed it and never used dryer sheets again.

      They have precut aluminum foil seets at the Dollar store! Can probably get over a year’s worth for $1.00!
