Not sure if this is in the right spot but I am so mad!

i am getting so sick of people being just flat mean because i coupon or because i bought something at a thrift store. my gosh why the heck does it even matter to them where and how i consume?

i was curious if you all ever have rude remarks or looks made when you hand a cashier a bunch of coupons. either it’s the cashier being sarcastic or mad because i have so many or it’s the person behind me in the line being very rude because they’re having to wait. it just amazes me how tacky people can be.

i even had a cashier pretty much imply that if i didn’t have the money then i shouldn’t be shopping. she was mad that i had around 30 coupons. I mean my goodness, in my retail working days we would be THRILLED if someone came in and spent 200 dollars at our store.

I just stood there dumbfounded that this woman thinks that the only people who use coupons are the ones that don’t have any money….lol Not only that but there was a couple behind me agreeing with the cashier and the wife was just looking at me with disgust. :107:

It honestly hurt my feelings more than it made me mad :012:
I wish people could respect the fact that I CHOOSE to use coupons. I get really tired of being made fun of by strangers and friends/family. I sometimes wonder if my friends/family are just jealous.

I went into Albertson’s grocery, my bill totaled 182 dollars, after coupons it came to 60 bucks…..tell me please, what is so lame about that love smiley:bounce:love smiley

There is nothing lame with you using coupons. People are ignorant to the use of coupons, I mean that in a way that they don’t know any better. I thought that’s why there were coupons, so they could be used.

Sometimes people need to be reminded of that fact.

On time I had done some shopping at Wal Mart, and I did have a cart full, and my coupons. When I got up to the cashier, she rolled her eyes at me. So I looked at her and said “Is something wrong?”, ” I thought that your light was on because your lane was open.”

She had nothing to say to me. When she was done and I paid my bill, I said to her, “Thank you so much for everything, now you have a nice rest of the day.” I always ingore the people behind me, because I’m not there for them.

And as for the cashier, nice always kills them. When your super nice, they can’t really get mad now can they? They’ll get over it, it gives them something to talk about for the day.

I look at it this way, glad I could be the one that gave them something to talk about. 🙂

lol! I’m more passive really, like when that cashier implied that I’m poor I was burning with anger but I’m such a pansy I couldn’t do anything about it. Ignorance infuriates me, and the sad thing is, people are becoming more and more that way.

Or maybe it’s the area I live in. My friend & I were discussing this yesterday, how when we both lived in different areas people weren’t flat out rude and mean as they are here.

She went to the laundry mat, someone wanted to share her table, or so she though, to fold their clothes on. She said “I’m sorry let me move my stuff so you can put your down” and smiled politely. She turned around to get her stuff out of the dryer and here’s things falling to the floor.

This girl literally had taken her arm and cleared off my friend clothes, laundry basket, detergent onto the floor and stood there with this smirk on her face. The girls mother of course did nothing. My friend said she just gathered her stuff quickly and left as fast as she could.

I was coming home from work Friday and got called a ‘stupid *itch’ amongst other obscenities because I stopped, with my turn signal on, to turn into my driveway. The lady was mad because she had to brake and wait for me to turn. Mind you I had to wait for traffic to clear before I myself could turn.

      It just amazes me.

I’ve thought very seriously about moving out to East Texas, population 500 in my favorite town. Maybe I’m just too soft hearted for the city? Maybe people were always this cruel and it’s not something new?

Anyway, I’m wayyyy off the subject of couponing. Sorry for the vent.

I also have noticed a change of attitute at a store where I have shopped for over 10 years. Since I now shop several stores to get the best deals and no longer spend 75 to 100 a week in their store and shop mostly with coupons (in the past 6 months) I now find that instead of being treated friendly I am treated with icy politeness by several of the cashiers and the assistant manager. No one has been rude, but I no longer feel like a valued customer.
Just have to remind myself that I’m getting good deals, that I’m there to shop not to socialize and let them think what they want to.

I enjoy the money I’m saving my family and that’s what counts.

Penny, you made my day. You express yourself beautifully and I understand your anger. I’ll bet Albertson’s has a website with email.

I’d be sending an email voicing your digust. (I have done it several times with different stores or resturants) I too am usually stun over the rudeness these days. I think what we are seeing are people who aren’t used to struggling trying to get by. That cashier may never had to work until recently and hasn’t gotten over looking down at people for what she believes is stupid.

The country is in turmoil and so are many of the people. We all learned how to get by early on, so we still have grace. lol.

Coupon away sister and smile at them.

Wow, I can’t believe that this kind of attitude toward coupon users exist. Maybe I am not seeing it since I choose to live in a happy bubble but I am always excited when i use coupons since for me it’s like a game. When I get to the checkout stand I say to the cashier, “It’s time for the Ralph’s limbo, how low can my price go!” and they get kinda excited too, I guess it’s a part of their customer service.

I don’t even shop at Albertson’s anymore since they don’t do double coupons. I have never had anyone give attitude, not even the customers behind me since they are also interested to see how much money I save and ask about hints and tips. The store knows that thye are going to get money from coupon users one way or another, people that have coupons spends more since they save more and the store gets compensated for the coupon price anyway.

Those rude people need to go back to sensitivity training.

lokilove, I agree with you I haven’t had any problems with using coupons and have even had several people comment how it pays to go on the internet to find a bargain. I always start my shopping by asking the cashier if she/he wants the coupons with the item at the beginning of the shopping or at the end. The only time they have ever gotten a little flustered is when an item is free and they have to hunt on the receipt to find out the price to give me the coupon for.

Guess I am fortunate to have friendly folks who don’t mind saving a penny or two 🙂

      Thank you Darcel!
I think that sensitivity training should be ordered by police. Like they need to have courtesy officers and if you’re a tart you get sentenced to a week in the ‘learn to have manners’ class. LOL!!

      Sorry, I’m weirdo.

Albertson’s is the “uppity” grocery store here. For example, even their store brand is more expensive than Kroger’s name brand. They raised their prices after adding a Starbuck’s inside, remodeling the rest of the store and adding a gas station to the front.

Of course I’m speaking of a specific store as well. I noticed that two Kroger stores near my house have drastically different prices. I find that ridiculous!

It makes me mad because the one i did like now sells $150 dollar wedges of cheese. It’s like UHmmmmm who would buy that? someone in a race for constipation?

I totally simpathize. I think we all have been treated this way at one time. I like to look at it as people who have money do because they spend it wisely 🙂

Most of the stores I shop at (Middle class like) I have not gotten any negative responses from, actually quite the opposite. Many of the cashiers look at me in amazement (and have commented to me) that I could get so much food for so little money! I have, however, encountered the impatient person waiting in line behind me.

But they were there before I used coupons too…so I try not to let it bother me. Some people get irritated just because I do a large shopping! That’ s on them.

I try not to let other people disturbances disturb me.

Gosh I don’t seem to encounter this, people are always real nice. I do try to be polite to the cashiers and treat them well afterall, they are on their feet all day and work very hard for thier money too! If I have a free or B1G1F item(s) I write the amount on the coupon for the checker when I get the item off the shelf. This helps both of us know the price.

I also will gladly give the person behind or in front of me a coupon if I see something in their cart that I have a coupon for. What goes around comes around!

im sorry you have encountered that. i have to say that if someone ever talked to me like that (especially an employee of the store) i wouldn’t be quiet about it. its downright rude.

it is not their job to criticize, its their job to have good customer service.

also if someone behind me was rude i would flat out say “im sorry i am taking too long, but i would rather pay $60 than $120 for my groceries. I will not pay more for my groceries because you are in a hurry.”

of course in my store, unless the coupons werent “ready” they take no real extra time. Now they just scan them which takes only seconds.

in this economy, I cant imagine anyone not respecting anyone trying to save a few pennies.

again, Im sorry you had to deal with that. Its rude and uncalled for. 🙁

Tell people you’re doing your part to keep the earth green. Coupons are printed- you use them- therefore they are not wasted and keep the Earth green. Seriously tho- it’s no one’s business if you use them or not. Personally I’d mention to the store supervisor that you felt slighted by the cashier for using them. It’s your money they are collecting to pay her wage. In this day and age we all have to save where we can. Coupons help. It’s annoying and I think we all go through it at some point. My own hubby criticizes me for it sometimes- he changed his tune when I started getting a bunch of free stuff with it tho.
Feel good about what you are doing and know that you are not alone. There’s lots of us coupon clippers out there!

I know what you are going through. People really need to learn to be nicer. Tough times like these though call for a change of strategy so the more you can save the better. I won’t put up with a rude cashier though at least they have a job, I don’t. So I’m gonna save what I can.

I live in Minnesota, and have never gotten attitude about coupons. The stores actually ask nicely if you have any coupons today and smile when you hand them to em. lol

I love thrift stores, and it seems like around here people are always excited to hear about how much you save. lol It’s the new status symbol to have the funnest stuff, for the lowest price. lol

To be upset because someone ahead of you is saving money? That’s awful. Chalk it up to them being jealous… after all, they’re paying full price. I feel terrible for them. We get the challenge of filling our cart but not emptying our wallets… what challenge do they get? Figuring out which bills they can manage to pay with what’s leftover? I’ll take my challenge any day!

Shrug it off… and laugh all the way to the bank. Great job on the savings! My personal best is $58 savings on one grocery trip. 🙂

      Hugs to you!
      Shannon
