How do I get dh white socks white again?

I put socks and a few tees in the sink with 2 tablespoons of powder dishwasher soap and let it soak a few hours in hot water. I put them in the washer and I could not believe the way they came out! Like new!!

I used to take auto grease out of boys jeans with dishwasher detergent. Put the detergent in a jar with hot water & stir or shake til it’s dissolved or it will leave white bleach spots. After it’s dissolved pour it in the washer after tub is filled.

I was wondering why has everyone stated

JoAnn – Back when I learned this tip, powdered was all there was. By the time the liquid detergent came out the boys were doing their own laundry. I really don’t know why the liquid wouldn’t work if it is made of the same ingredients.

What does dishwasher soap (dry or liquid) have in it that laundry soap does not?

I wonder if the ingredient in the powder dishwasher soap is the same that is in the oxy clean powder. My dh wore a lot of 100% white cotton t shirts, underwear and socks. I washed the whites in one load and used bleach and a drop or 2 of bluing and did a 2nd rinse because the bleach always irritated sensitive parts of his body if ya know what I mean.

I think the bluing is the trick that keeps things from getting a gray or yellow tinge and a bottle of bluing lasts a long time. I also use hot water.

I don’t know where I read this at, but I wash my whites in soap first. Then I will put it back on the wash cycle again (second time), and then add bleach to the second wash. Then proceed with the rinse cycle. I know that it uses more water, but our socks really come super clean.

The reason that I use the bleach in the second cycle, is because if you put bleach in with the first wash, it makes the whites have a yellowish color to them. So when you add the bleach to the second wash, it doesn’t have that yellowish look to them. It works really well.

Tonia, do you put soap in the second washing? Or just the bleach? I’m guessing hot water for both cycles? There is nothing worse than yellow whites. Janice, you’re hysterical!!! LOL

I put soap in both cycles with hot water, but I also use dawn dish soap in my laundry. It’s more concentrated than laundry soap and last a long time.

Janice my nephews actually do this. I’ve tried to show them how to sort their clothes, but they said that it’s easier to just put it all together……….so funny that you said something about that…..lol……

I wonder if I could do this. My DH is allergic to almost all laundry soaps, luckily he isn’t allergic to Purex.

It’s worth a try. I started using it in order to save money. I found out by accident one day, I ran out of laundry soap so I grabbed the dawn dish soap from the kitchen. It worked so good that I decided to keep using it. I large bottle of dawn last me about 2 months. But it really just depends on how much laundry you do. Sometimes I do alot in one day, and then other days I don’t hardly do any. If your DH is allergic to so much, then it may work for you and him.
