Moving Town to town?

Hello,Do any of you live in an low-income apartments and could mor
eof less tell me if you really do save??
A low income apartment is available to me on the first,it is in the
town,close to a church,school and my daughter and grandson(all in
walking distance. I now reside in a mobile home,which is paid for.I
do not have to move,but the people I pay lot/trash rent to will
increase the rent/trash when They move starting in May. I pay now 70
dollars it will go up to 76 dollars. I have severe allergies and
asthma,he will also want me to mow the side yard,which will take me
about 3 days to mow,my yard,back yeard and now side yard with a push
mower. There will only be a 3 dollar diffrence in moving to town,by
calulating my current bills. I pay 88 dollars in gas,to fill up a
propane tank each month,in the apaprtments they have an utility
allowence that goes toward the rent,they pay for the trash and
water,I would have to pay for the other bills.I was wondering if the
gas and electric would be cheaper being that it is central and not
coming from a tank? I am not working and am trying to make it
accordingly on my income of 709 a month. My son is also diabled with
kidney damage,ADHD/ADD with chracteristics of ASD/Autism Spectrum
disorder.I don't know if they make special arrangements for this in
low income apartments or not,but my son is non-medicated and can be
quite loud,which makes me wonder about the rules of the apartments.
Also the managers tell me I would have to pay the deposit before I
can get the key and see the apartments,has any one delt with any of
this before?? I'm in a sitation where I am stuck and don't know what
to do to make it.What do you all think?

I've lived in subsidized housing before. The main thing is price,
but it sounds like that isn't much of a difference for you.

Being in town, you won't use as much gas going back and forth.
You'll still have utilities, but they are -usually- lower in
apartment buildings because you share walls (which effects heat).
Trash is usually included, as is water, so if you pay either of
those bills now, that's a savings.

Gas is a savings to and from places. Also, being in town, you might
be within walking distance to some places.

As for your son, they might be a bit lenient, but they do have to
keep to the same rules with loudnes as other tennents. If your
neighbor was blasting the radio, they'd get in trouble if people
complain- same with the loudness coming from your son.

For moving in, it's normal getting a deposit before handing a key
over, but ask them for a tour before signing a lease or placing a
deposit. Tell them you need to make sure it's got enough room for
your family.

I don't know the cost difference between propane and central heating
is, but again, you'll be sharing walls, and if your trailer is older
than 10 years old, chances are, you are losing heat through bad
insulation, which can raise the cost. Apartments tend to be better
kept up, plus you have maitnence covered if anything breaks down.
Sharing walls means you have at least one side of the apartment that
is not facing outside, so it won't be losing as much heat, if that
makes sense? Basically, a shared wall means a warmer home, and
slightly lower costs.

If you choose to remain in your trailer, would it be possible to
hire someone to do the lawn cheaply? A relative or neighbor?

This doesn?t seem quite right that you can?t even look at the apartment without paying something. I understand not getting the keys without it but not looking at it.

Hi Hun~
I have lived in apartments/Mobil homes and houses so I can tell you that the apartment was the cheapest as far as electric. However, in an apartment you may run into problems with your son being loud if the neighbors complain. The management will only give you a few notices then you will be asked to leave if they get enough complaints. It may make for a stressful situation. Talk with the management and see what they say, that may help you decide right there. Usually they request the deposit and first months rent before they will give you the keys. Also remember all the cost's it just takes to move, you will be paying closing bills at the Mobil home as you are paying current bills for the apartment. Just something to keep in mind.
You mentioned grand kids, can one of their parents help you out and mow the lawn for you so you don not have to worry about it?
