Default Making a master grocery list - To avoid running out!

Do you create a master list of basic staples to keep on your fridge?

We keep a list of common items our family tends to either go fairly quickly- but always seem too busy to tell me if we run out.

      Milk
      Cereal
      bread
      Mayo
Yogurt (we make our own and they're supposed to make a note if we're running low)
      Juice
      Cheese
      Cream Cheese
Bagels (again, homemade but it's nice if they let me know when we're running low so I can make more)

When my kids were young I used to have a little penalty if they didnt mark off an item when they used it all. Something little like no tv for the day, or they got an extra chore. It really helped to spark their memory for next time.

This is a nice idea. I don't keep a list of what we go through but do have my boys trained that if it isn't on the list it will not be replaced and they do miss some of their favorites when we run out.

I don't actually keep a master list of staples on the fridge, but I DO keep a grocery list for when we're low or out of something...if no one writes it on the list...well, unless it's a very good loss leader for that week, it doesn't get bought.
