Most of the stores I shop at (Middle class like) I have not gotten any negative responses from, actually quite the opposite. Many of the cashiers look at me in amazement (and have commented to me) that I could get so much food for so little money! I have, however, encountered the impatient person waiting in line behind me. But they were there before I used coupons too...so I try not to let it bother me. Some people get irritated just because I do a large shopping! That' s on them. I try not to let other people disturbances disturb me.

Gosh I don't seem to encounter this, people are always real nice. I do try to be polite to the cashiers and treat them well afterall, they are on their feet all day and work very hard for thier money too! If I have a free or B1G1F item(s) I write the amount on the coupon for the checker when I get the item off the shelf. This helps both of us know the price. I also will gladly give the person behind or in front of me a coupon if I see something in their cart that I have a coupon for. What goes around comes around!

I am getting so sick of people being just flat mean because I coupon or because I bought something at a thrift store. My gosh why the heck does it even matter to them where and how I consume?

I was curious if you all ever have rude remarks or looks made when you hand a cashier a bunch of coupons. Either it's the cashier being sarcastic or mad because I have so many or it's the person behind me in the line being very rude because they're having to wait. It just amazes me how tacky people can be.

I even had a cashier pretty much imply that if I didn't have the money then I shouldn't be shopping. She was mad that I had around 30 coupons. I mean my goodness, in my retail working days we would be THRILLED if someone came in and spent 200 dollars at our store. I just stood there dumbfounded that this woman thinks that the only people who use coupons are the ones that don't have any money....lol Not only that but there was a couple behind me agreeing with the cashier and the wife was just looking at me with disgust.

It honestly hurt my feelings more than it made me mad
I wish people could respect the fact that I CHOOSE to use coupons. I get really tired of being made fun of by strangers and friends/family. I sometimes wonder if my friends/family are just jealous. I went into Albertson's grocery, my bill totaled 182 dollars, after coupons it came to 60 bucks.....tell me please, what is so lame about that
Im sorry you have encountered that. I have to say that if someone ever talked to me like that (especially an employee of the store) I wouldn't be quiet about it. Its downright RUDE. It is not their job to criticize, its their job to have good customer service.

Also if someone behind me was rude I would flat out say "Im sorry I am taking too long, but i would rather pay $60 than $120 for my groceries. I will not pay more for my groceries because you are in a hurry."

of course in my store, unless the coupons werent "ready" they take no real extra time. Now they just scan them which takes only seconds.

in this economy, I cant imagine anyone not respecting anyone trying to save a few pennies.

again, Im sorry you had to deal with that. Its rude and uncalled for.

Tell people you're doing your part to keep the earth green. Coupons are printed- you use them- therefore they are not wasted and keep the Earth green. Seriously tho- it's no one's business if you use them or not. Personally I'd mention to the store supervisor that you felt slighted by the cashier for using them. It's your money they are collecting to pay her wage. In this day and age we all have to save where we can. Coupons help. It's annoying and I think we all go through it at some point. My own hubby criticizes me for it sometimes- he changed his tune when I started getting a bunch of free stuff with it tho.
Feel good about what you are doing and know that you are not alone. There's lots of us coupon clippers out there!

I know what you are going through. People really need to learn to be nicer. Tough times like these though call for a change of strategy so the more you can save the better. I won't put up with a rude cashier though at least they have a job, I don't. So I'm gonna save what I can.

    Heart Re: Coupon issues

I live in Minnesota, and have never gotten attitude about coupons. The stores actually ask nicely if you have any coupons today and smile when you hand them to em. lol

I love thrift stores, and it seems like around here people are always excited to hear about how much you save. lol It's the new status symbol to have the funnest stuff, for the lowest price. lol

To be upset because someone ahead of you is saving money? That's awful. Chalk it up to them being jealous... after all, they're paying full price. I feel terrible for them. We get the challenge of filling our cart but not emptying our wallets... what challenge do they get? Figuring out which bills they can manage to pay with what's leftover? I'll take my challenge any day!

Shrug it off... and laugh all the way to the bank. Great job on the savings! My personal best is $58 savings on one grocery trip.

    Hugs to you!
    Shannon
