Using a Misto olive oil sprayer, lightly mist the molds, or add oil to a paper towel and lightly to coat each of the bear mold cavities with a thin layer of oil.

Traditional Gummy Bears
3 oz flavored gelatin aka Jello (do not use sugar-free as it will not set)
1 envelope (1/4 oz) unflavored gelatin
1/3 cup cold water.
Bear-shaped candy molds.

In a small microwave safe bowl, combine the flavored gelatin, the plain gelatin the cold water, whisking to combine.

Let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes to allow the gelatin to soften.

Microwave the mixture for 30 seconds, then whisk well. Repeat until the mixture is clear and no undissolved sugar remains. (This can also be done on the stovetop in a saucepan if you prefer).

Transfer the mixture to container with a pour spout and pour the gelatin into the cavities. Cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, then place in freezer for 20 minutes.

Vegan Gummy Bears-

Not crazy about the idea of using animal based gelatin? No worries, here’s a delicious recipe that utilizes your favorite fruit juice and Agar Powder (Made from seawood, completely flavorless!)

1 cup fruit juice
2 tablespoons agar powder
1-2 tablespoons sweetener like honey, cane sugar or agave nectar

In a small sauce pan, whisk juice and agar together, let it set

Turn on heat & whisk frequently. As soon as it starts to thicken, add your sweetener (if desired) and stir.
Simmer until it thickens to the consistency of paint, stirring constantly. (About 4-5 minutes)

Remove from heat, transfer the hot liquid into a measuring cup with a spout and carefully pour the liquid into your molds.

  1. If you want to make your gummies shelf stable so they won’t mold add potassium sorbate at a ratio to 1:3, one part potassium sorbate to 3 parts water.

Dissolve the potassium sorbate in the water and then use it in the recipe above. So for 1/3 cup of water you’d add 2 ¼ tsp teaspoons of potassium sorbate.
