Default How to cook rice so it isn't sticky....

      Hello to all!

Help! I love rice and when I make it it tastes okay. My problem is that I have never been able to make rice without it being sticky. Taste is one thing, but appearance is another and my rice never appears appetizing. I always follow the recipe and have even tried altering it in different ways, but never seem to come out with anything other than sticky rice. What am I doing wrong?

      TIA,
      Debbie

I have not had much trouble with rice. I add salt and a small amount of margarine to the pot. I usually need more water than what is called for and keep a tea pot close by to add to the pot. Not sure if this helps.

Have you tried to cook it with chicken or beef broth instead of water? There is a little natural fat in broth, and I think that it helps keep the rice from sticking together. In fact, my mom taught me to add a teaspoon of cooking oil to pasta too in order to keep it from sticking.

i use minute rice and i never have any trouble with it sticking together, so I can't be of much help, but I too add a little oil to my pasta to keep it from sticking. maybe that would help like someone else said earlier.

Actually, rice doesn't need as much water to cook as the package suggests. If you speak with a chef or professional cook, they will tell you to use less water. The package says 1 cup of rice & 2 cups water, but try it once using with 1 cup of rice & about 1 1/2 cups water & see how it works. When I do it that way it makes the rice so fluffy!

      rtebalt,

I usually cook the rice the way you have said ----- But I also put a Tbsp of butter in mine for flavor, at times if am serving a meat directly over the rice.
