Kidney Stones

Rate this Entry
Well it's been one of those weekends. So busy, it's hard to get anything done. My oldest DS had a band festival yesterday and got top score. We were so happy for him, and he worked so hard at it.

Then in the middle of the day my DH sister calls and tells me that their mom is in the hospital with kidney stones. Here I am an hour and half away from them and couldn't get there. She had 4 for them. They got one of them, and then put in a stint for her to pass two of them. They said that one of them was to large for her to pass. That they couldn't get it, because of an infection. So they said that she would have to come back in two weeks so they could get the largest one still in there.

I have never had them myself. Is it normal to wait two weeks like that? I worry that she might be in to much pain to wait. But I also wonder if they are waiting for the infection to go away too. Does anyone know anything about this, is it normal to wait that long? She is suppose to be sent home today, we'll see if that happens or not.

Tonia - A friend of mine suffers from Kidney stones. One was too large to pass and the Doctors used a laser to break it up. At least, I think that is what he was telling me.

sounds awful, my dad has a history of them and he's told me more than once that they're pretty awful.

Thank you JoAnn, you are very sweet. We are very happy for our son. I hate to use the word proud. Pride gets in the way of things to much, so that's why I don't use that word much.

As for my MIL, Janice you said something about laser. I did find out that's what they plan on doing once the infection is gone. She was running a fever last night, that was after she got home. Bless her heart, I really feel for her. I've also heard that it's very painful too Tarrian. I sure hope that the infection is gone soon, maybe that will help her feel alittle better.

Thanks everyone for your in put, it's so nice to be able to talk about things. I'm really bad about holding things in. I need to vent more often to get things off my chest. I love all my new friends here. You are so very supportive about things.

Two weeks is not too long. I had stones while I was pregnant with my daughter and they put a stent in but waited until I delivered her to break them up. So that was from December to February that I just had to wait. About two weeks after she was born I went in for lithotripsy and it was a piece of cake.

I have never had them and don't really want to think about it because it scares the crud out of me.

LOL, yes the pain for me when I passed a stone was worse than childbirth. And I had all three of my kids naturally with no pain meds or epidurals.

Atta, I have heard that about kidney stones. I also had my kids naturally, no meds at all. I would do it the same way again. It was better on them not to have the meds.
