On Life in General

The last few weeks have been annoying, frustrating and crazy. Spiritually, I believe that we are each here on earth for our souls to learn certain "lessons" (if you will) in life. Once our soul has acquired those lessons, learned from them, accepted them fully, we move on. (Where we go is another blog post entirely, )

I think one of my life lessons is for me to learn not to blindly trust everyone that crosses my path. I have this foolish problem, whenever I attempt anything in life, I put my entire heart and soul into it. I believe that anything worth doing, is worth doing well. However, in having this perspective, I often allow myself to be taken advantage of.

I get sucked into driving hours & hours to pick up and deliver materials, (over 5,000 miles in a month!) or supervise construction sites (and not get paid for my time or efforts), work on peoples computers for hours on end as though I haven't a single thing I really need to accomplish besides putting them first and then barely receive so much as an uttered Thank you.
Ironically, that "Thank you" would be enough if it were sincere, but more often that naught, it is simply a means to dismiss the effort and move along.

Regrettably, I always seem to assume that if one works hard and puts forth their best, their efforts shall (eventually) be rewarded; But at what cost?
Each time I allow myself to be taken advantage of in this manner, I trust those around me even less and I am finding that lately I don't want to extend myself at all.

Perhaps this is just self preservation, but I wonder if this is simply a life lesson in Humanity.

I am reminded of a quote that I heard while in High School (many many moons ago!), and was originally written by an anonymous Carnival pitchmen.

Humanity ain't always what's pretty. Some of the worst killers are pretty.
Humanity ain't always what sounds nice and falls smooth on the ear, 'cause any pitchman can charm a snake, but some pitchmen ain't too humane.
A person shows humanity when he's there if you need him, when he takes you in, when he has a genuine kind word, when he makes you feel not alone, when he makes your fight his fight.
That's what humanity is, if you want to know. And if we had a little more of it in this world, maybe we could get ourselves out of the handbasket we're in...or at least stop carrying that handbasket straight to Hell, the way we have been for so long.

Just idle ramblings for a Wednesday morning.

This reminds me of a post else where on the site. What goes around comes around. You have learned to "freely give" while others learn only to "freely take". Personally, I think it's the nice people that freely give.

This is my sentiments as well, many times I have said those exact words to family friends and my boys. We aren't suppose to question the lessons but learn from them so we can move on. I just hope I have a lot of lessons yet to learn

This is very true! If you can do all the generous things that you do and still look in the mirror and like who you see then you know you are doing what is right for you. The people who take and take can't face themselves.

Liss, know that you have touched so many lives with this site in so many different ways. Everyday I am very thankful that I found budget101, the wonderful friends that I have made on here. You have helped me to appreciate so much more about my life just from having this site available to me. I treasure every second that I am able to share and learn from you. Even if it doesn't mean that much I truly THANK YOU for being you!

I know how you feel -I wish I could say no ,but I never seem to.Even with my business if you want to come early or stay late -I will let you. I have taught everything under the sun , painted houses. I just keep thinking the god has a special place for me some day - hopefully with no work included. Thank you for this great site I have personally changed my life and way of thinking because of this site -even though I do not blog -not sure it my thing. I alway think my random thought might sound -well stupid. so thank you for the time and effort it take to make this thing have a life of its own.Bobbi-ne

I know how that is. I've always made friends with those people who will ask you for a million things- and me being a people-pleaser will do every single one of those things, but the minute I ask its too big of a thing or they forgot. Its really discouraging.

A friend of mine actually worked her butt off (basically did 50% of the work while 20 other people did the other 50%) at a big festival thing and never got paid, got a badge, or get a thank you at the closing ceremonies. It really made her discouraged and question why she even bothered.

Perhaps if you take a break from extending yourself for a while then get back to it people will realize how important of a figure you really are. I know it sounds like a petty thing to do, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I actually watched a show yesterday that had a great theory some characters discussed in it. People are either givers or takers. They can always switch roles if need be, but usually they stray to one side. Some people will give give give and expect very little in return, maybe even give their life. While others will take take take and never have their fill.

Liss, You are connected with so many people and have connected so many people together. Even the Best have to take a break.

I have to do this a few times a year myself. It's really hard to do also. But I feel better afterwards. Me Time Do what make you Happy.

I feel that same at times. It seems as if people just don't care about the hard work that put in. But I do have to say this site is the best. I love coming on here just to see how my new friends are, or just to read a few posts. It's so nice to get away from things and come here to this site to enjoy the company. Even though we don't see each other in person, it doesn't seem to matter, it's just the idea that we can come on here just to visit anyway.

Thank you Liss for the site, you have went beyond any other. Do you realize that you have helped change lives because of this site? That my dear is an amazing thing to do. Not many people are able to do that

I'm a giver too and sometimes feel that what I do receives little appreciation but it's in my nature to give and I can't seem to change that fact, but I am learning to set boudaries so I won't feel taken advantage of. Give of yourself but don't let others drain you.

I too want to thank you Liss ,for this site. tsgal put it very well when she said "you have helped change lives".

This site really is like a family.
