Workaholic here...

Hi everyone! I've been reading everyone elses' blogs and thought I'd write one of my own. I love all the ideas about lists and coupon organizers. My problem is that I'm trying to save money by grocery shopping and fixing my own lunches and dinners, but I work at the hospital 3-4xs a week and so I always end up eating what's there and wasting money on groceries. I'm trying harder to stay more motivated to get up earlier and fix my meals, but when I look to a 10-12 hour work day (usually 11a-11p) I end up more motivated to sleep later and run out of time getting ready for work. On my days off I am usually tired or busy living my life that I forget what I have and end up eating out again!
I guess what I wanted to ask was if anyone had any ideas about how I could try better tactics at time management? Its just me and my dog at home, so I don't have to worry about anyone else right now. I also have a frig at work that I can use. Its just so much easier (yet worse for you in fat and in finances) to eat out or at work.

Hi Amber, welcome to the blogs! Do you have access to a Microwave at work? If so, try this, when you make dinners at night, (which you gotta do anyway), make enough to have at least 1 extra serving that you can put in a container (the glad or ziploc containers work great). Toss them in the freezer. Then when you get ready for work in the morning, just grab one, by the time lunchtime rolls around, it's thawed out and ready for the micro. If you start packing meals over a weekend, then you won't be eating "yesterdays" leftovers each day. You'll have a supply of quick, ready to eat lunches that you aren't already "bored" with.
This cuts on your grocery bill and saves aggravation in the morning trying to decipher what's worth eating. The bonus side of this, you won't have to spend extra time every morning trying to figure out what to eat, or spending money in the machines at work/fast food/etc because you didnt happen to be hungry that morning when you were trying to decide.

Thank you so much!!! I never thought about freezing and microwaving! I usually make things in the morning but I have almost an hour drive to work and worry all the time about things going bad in the car, especially if I have to make a stop. I'll definately try it!!
