On Friday, my girls are going in for their shot updates. Blech. I hate, hate, hate taking them to get shots. I think they are slightly behind on them, so it's time to get them done. Any ideas for making it better for them? They are five and ten years old.

Mom - I'm so sorry you have to do this and believe me I know it has to be done but I am one of those people that CANNOT hold still if a needle is coming at me. I'm talking injections, drawing blood or IV's. If it's sharp and pointy they are just going to have to catch me.

I don't do shots with my kids. My oldest was happy and normal until he took them and came down with Autism. the University of Missouri tracked the batch of DPT and ever child who took it came down with Autism. Say what you want but none of my other 4 took them and they have never needed them even going overseas or going to college! I told our Doctor when they could promise me they were totally safe then we'd talk about it but so far no one will say they are safe. It's a personal choice but there are a lot of us who don't do it because they are not safe and our government knows that!

Years ago (like 20) one pediatrician told me that about 30 minutes before the appointment to give my oldest a dose of tylenol that it would lessen the pain and help to calm him some before the shots-he was just a newborn at that time. I have done that with all four of the boys since then and it has really helped a lot. The site doesn't get as red and no effects afterwards. Have them take a favorite stuffy with them and they can really hug it tight with the other arm to feel more secure.

Good luck-rough seeing your child have to go through this.
