Work or Working out?

Sometimes I loathe the fact that I sit at the computer for hours on end, but like everyone else, I have to work to pay the billClick image for larger version.

On a good day, I try the old standby's, walking up and down the staircase a few extra times, jumping jacks when I stop to refill my coffee mug (which is actually a lot considering that I drink 2+ POTS of coffee per day, lol), or if I have to run to the store, etc I always park the furthest away that I can and walk the extra.

However, when I'm working my desk job, I have a tendency to say to myself, I just need 10 more minutes.. and 2 hours later, I'm still sitting in one spot, legs cramped, back and neck throbbing, knowing that I needed to make time for my workout but too busy trying to get a string of code to work properly.

That is, until I discovered the fitdesk. It's work and a workout, combined.

I first discovered this interesting idea through my oldest sons college facebook page, they actually added a couple of these to the library at the University to give students the opportunity to stay fit while studying.

I immediately fell in love with the idea that I could comfortably continue working while staying fit, so I started googling them... and then I bit the bullet and bought one of these little marvels!

It took about 30 minutes to put it all together and I jumped on, normally I spend about 4 hours in the morning adding new articles and responding to forums and posts. I figure if I can ride while I work, I'll be ahead of the game and any other workout I manage to fit in during the day is just a bonus.

This morning alone, In just an hours time I've already biked 16 miles and burned well over 400 calories. I'll hit 1,000 calories burned and all before lunch, just by moving a little bit while I work. The bike is 100% silent. If this was in a cubicle at work, NO ONE would hear it.

Best part- I no longer feel guilty when my computer work runs a bit longer in the mornings than I anticipated.

What ways do you sneak in extra workouts during your day?
