The Grocery Challenge

I think it is great that they have the thread about reducing the grocery bill down to $50 a week. There is very useful information in it.

BUT---

It is usually for a family of four. While most people have small families like this, I sometimes get frustrated because I have to cook for 9 people-5 of which are teen-agers. Large appetites.
I think I do really well for my groceries though-the most I spend in a month might be $500 for everyone. I do use coupons, but they are attached to my store card-easy to use without having to clip. And I shop the sales around the different stores.

I would love to see a thread that shows how to cook cheaply for larger groups. Not only would this be good for families like me, but maybe also for people who cook for large groups-like summer camps or such.

Just a thought........

nice to see i am not the only one with large family.....we have 6 of us.....me,hubby, 12,13,18,22........who except me are bottomless pits....not to mention when the freinds are at house....sometimes i think i am the only parent who actually cooks meals and real food in the neighborhood. I have been able to get us down (on a good month) to about 400 a month with complaints that there is nothing to eat in the house. I am hoping now that i have been laid off and will be home to plan things better i can get that down and start making more things from scratch.....

Feel free to start a new thread on this topic in the frugal savings forum- it's the perfect place for such a discussion!
